Dream Casting is always interesting, and I've just seen West End Wilma's choices and some really are choices but then others (in my opinion!), would be perfect casting and I really think four of the performers in particular, hes hit the nail on the head:
Perfect:
Evan Hansen – Luke Bayer I've wanted Luke to play the role since the show was announced, I think he'd be great in the role.
Zoe Murphy - Evelyn Hoskins I think she'd be great in the role, and she has the right kinda look and voice to suit it even though the role itself is kinda thankless.
Cynthia Murphy - Cassidy Janson She'd be perfect for either Mother role, I'd rather see her get more of an arch and more to do with Heidi than Cynthia, but she'd be perfect as either.
Connor Murphy – Jamie Muscato I think Jamie would be perfect for that role, especially because he has lead in Heathers so we know he can play that kinda unstable, messed up kinda kid and also play the dark humour well.
Jared Kleinman – Daniel Buckley I mean, come on, it's perfect.
Meh:
Larry Murphy – Richard Trinder I don't know who he is, I'm sure he'd be great.
Not gonna happen:
Alana Beck – Eva Noblezada She's a Tony nominee who has been the lead in both Hadestown, Miss Saigon and had major roles in Les Mis. There's no way she'd go from that to plating thankless roles that aren't even remotely close to the lead, no way.
Awful:
Heidi Hansen – Kerry Ellis Let's not bemoan all the reasons why she would be terrible for this role. Whilst she's vocally great her voice really wouldn't suit this score and I occasionally question whether she can actually act which is vital for this role, so I really just don't think it would be a good choice.

Shame that Cassidy is unavailable really. I was hoping we might get Sheridan as Heidi but I doubt she'd go straight from Joseph into another musical. Kerry, actually wouldn't be the worst choice.
I would actually love to see Melissa Jacques in this, have seen her as both Margaret and Ray in Jamie and she nails both those roles.
From that list though, I really don't think Jamie/Daniel are right for those parts, and I'm not convinced on Luke as Evan either.

Why, what's Cassidy doing after Man Of La Mancha finishes in June?

Oh, of course! You'd think I'd have remembered that, being one of the few people who's genuinely interested in it.

I think Dan would be great for Jared personally, mainly because Dan is very funny has really been around for ages, paid his dues and now he really does deserve a role in a big musical in the West End.

Wow. Posting an early closing in Toronto. I wonder what this means as to how it'll fare in London.

Wow. Posting an early closing in Toronto. I wonder what this means as to how it'll fare in London. They'll save money by not having to built a new set. I didn't know the show was an open run, I thought it was a long tour stop i.e. Matilda. Must be kind of a blow to the producers that DEH is not the massive show they thought it would be. Maybe they would have fared better in Chicago, but they would also have to deal with Hamilton.

Hamilton is closing in Chicago early 2019. DEH did well in Chicago early in the year and it will come back for a return engagement. I don't think it's the kind of show that can sustain a long/open ended run a la Wicked or Hamilton outside of the two major markets. The Toronto run proved as much. TBH I was surprised at this announcement too. It must have been really bad to close it so abruptly than just let it run its course and close it at the end of its booking period.

Cursed Child is taking the place of DEH in that theatre in Tornoto I think, so maybe makes sense money-wise? I don't think it closing early in Canada will be a suggestion for how it will do in London.

I've always felt DEH is a 'relevant now'-type production, not one with too much longevity but something intended to be capitalized upon in the short term. It's a shame it's appeal has dwindled so quickly outside of New York.

Made me think of ‘Rent’ to be honest. A quick turn at the zeitgeist, burn bright then fade away. The original production in NYC can stay a classic but likely to be a short lived wonder elsewhere. A shame, but how things are these days.

I'm not clued up on the dates of these productions but from the sounds of it, Hamilton was coming to a natural end whereas DEH was closing early? Very happy to be corrected if I'm entirely wrong there! 😅 Also, Hamilton has had a very respectable run in Chicago whereas DEH has been in Toronto just a few months, it's interesting.

A shame, but how things are these days. The thing about Rent is that it had multiple tours around the world (plus a movie, a TV "live" broadcast, and plenty of regionally licensed productions), but yeah, I don't think it had a ton of sit-downs.

I don't think it closing early in Canada will be a suggestion for how it will do in London. Dear Evan Hansen is playing the Royal Alexandra Theatre in Toronto, and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will be opening at the Ed Mirvish theatre. I think that the producers of Dear Evan Hansen are certainly seeing this as a failure. Quite simply, tickets couldn't be sold, especially at the prices asked. Certainly is interesting in this day and age of shows fuelled by social media hype.

I wonder when they’re gonna announce who’s playing Evan! I thought it was fairly imminent but it’s all gone a bit quiet on that front

It hasn’t been cast yet. They haven’t found Evan, auditions still going on and they can’t cast the rest until they have Evan.

Auditions were happening on Weds this week for Evan. Glad in a way to see so much time is being taken to ensure it’s right.

Not even Mandy Musicals Holden! How would you rate Ms. Holden as a musical theatre actress?
