Have you ever seen a show, disliked/hated it, and booked again thinking "maybe I was having a bad day, I'll give this a second chance", only to realize how stupid you are?
Evita. Did not hate it, but also did not particularly liked it. But for some reason I booked again. What was I thinking?
The Bodyguard. Saw this at the Dominion and even though I loved Rachel John as Rachel Marron (Bev was not on that day) I swore once was enough, I wouldn't put myself through this show again. Then it opened in Madrid, and what did I do? Yup, I booked. Ugh.

Cats. I hated it the first time but my friend really wanted to go so I went again with her, and tried to have an open mind, but I think hated it even more 😄 My friend hated it too lol!

Footloose. I loathed it the first time I saw it, but then a few years later there was someone I wanted to see in the tour and I couldn't remember how much I'd hated it and so I booked again. It wasn't until I was sitting in the auditorium before the show and looking at the set that I remembered how dreadful it was. I was almost lucky in that there were technical problems and half an hour after it was supposed to start they were on the point of cancelling the performance, but then they fixed everything.

My mum and I did something similar, we thought we didn't understand it the first time round. In our defence it was very long time ago

To be fair, I gave One Man Two Guvnors another shot. It was not better. I also saw Dominic Dromgoole's execrable Measure For Measure twice because my dad wanted to go, I spent the second visit trying to work out if I could fall asleep while still standing.

I gave the Kinky Boots tour a go after loathing it’s simplistic story in the W/E but found myself really enjoying it. I think it’s a mood thing...

Theresa May's Meaningful Vote. Every time it comes around I find myself watching it and getting depressed. And the ending never changes...

Anything directed by Ivo van Hove. I always book, I always hope, I always leave annoyed at myself.

Once. My friends loved it and I went to see it with such high hopes - and hated it. I actually did go back a second time some months later, in case I or the cast had been having an off day. Nope - still hated it.

Yes... a few times. You go see a new show in town, dislike it.. and 4 months later one of your favourite actors is going on for the main part for which he was the 6th understudy... *sigh*

Cats. Two evenings at the theatre I wont get back. Lion King - so far seen it 5 times, loved it the first time. 2nd and 3rd I went because my wife loved it, I found it tolerable at best. 4th and 5th times as school trips with pupils.By time number 5, no amount of spectacle could compensate for the appalling dialogue and that jumping motion Simba appeared to do on every other line. Drove me mad! Matilda. Liked it first time, didnt love it. Second time, another school trip, couldn't hear half of it and when I did I thought it not worth hearing. Totally passed me by.

From my experience theatregoing even the worse performance leaves me with at least once memory of something...whether or not that is positive, it is certainly memorable!!!

Young Frankenstein. Went early previews and the totally un-PC thing hit me hard ... blonde with ruffled knickers legs akimbo stuff. My kid wanted to see it so I got tickets for him, me and one of his friends in the GILT Jan sales. Hoped I was having an off night the first time, but it seemed to just underline all the un-PC stuff even more on a second viewing.

42nd Street. I've watched the film countless times and shall watch it (and all the other great Busby Berkley films) countless more times; but I didn't like the show at all.

Pretty much any play by Caryl Churchill. I tried, but now I just don't even bother. Life is too short.

A slightly different take on the topic.
I now have to avoid revivals of certain musicals which over the years I have seen dozens of times. I appreciate that the younger generation should absolutely have the chance to see these shows for the first time as they are absolute classics but I simply cannot sit through (almost 3 hours of) them again.
Examples being Oklahoma (revived again at Chichester) Fiddler On the Roof (Menier/Playhouse). Annie, Oliver, My Fair Lady. I did see The King & I at the Palladium. A great production with the wonderful Kelli O'Hara but even then the King took an awful long time to die!
