They won't be there on opening night though, they'll save all that for press night.

Looking at the performance schedule, there is no midweek matinee. Given that they're doing 8.30pm on Fridays, I would suspect that the intention is to add a 5pm/5.30pm show on Friday evenings. Probably waiting for sales to pick up.
EDIT - Just had a look at other venues and they do have the Friday 5pm performance available and on sale, so seems odd that it's not currently available in Manchester. Does anyone know if the Opera House have done double show Friday nights before? Wondering if it could be down to licensing from the local authority, but I don't know if that's a thing.

They did this for Rock of Ages and Murder Ballad in London recently but very rare for a touring production, apart from Joseph which does 6533 shows a day.

More common than your think - Grease, Dirty Dancing, Avenue Q, Rocky Horror, Thriller all either do currently or have had double show Friday evenings on tour plus I'm sure more that I can't remember!

The Exorcist has 1800 and 2100 on Fridays during the West End run.

It's 8.30 every Friday night Maybe they want to give all the hen party ladies time to get dolled up, get their feather boas on, have a meal and get trollied before they arrive at the theatre to sing along with all the Take That songs?

Apparently The Band boys will be at Manchester Pride this weekend, introduced by a famous (now) three piece.
No, it's not Bananarama.

There's drama ahead as the entire TT fan base have booked opening night to try and see TT at the stage door. Press night isn't until the 26th (I think) so will they go to opening night as well? Its slowly dawning on some that they may well not. Will there be tears and tantrums and hysteria if they don't turn up, followed by the behind gritted teeth speeches that they weren't here for them anyway, they're here for the show. Yeah course you are!
Some have booked multiple times already. I ask them "but what if you don't like it" "it's the music of Take That. How could I not. I will be having a singalong with the rest of the audience". If you're sat near me you won't! Sick of selfish people spoiling my theatre experiences.

Think there's also a lot of disappointed Take That fans this afternoon after their 'surprise appearance' at Manchester Pride.Gary, Mark and Howard came in for 90 seconds and introduced the band and that was it. The boys sang one song which wasn't too bad then they were joined by the girls who were quite frankly abysmal. The whole arena was cringing.

Gary had said on Twitter last week that they were just introducing them.
Seems a wasted opportunity though.
