Agree with your comments, I didn't see any wow moments, unless they mean a large air fan and a couple of flames.
Big whoop.
If I'd paid full price for this I'd be ragin'fumin'

A huge TV set! A big rock! A bus! School lockers!
It was hardly a painted back drop was it? For a touring production it was fine. Over complicated to shift around, yes, but what do you really expect? The likes of Mamma Mia really have a minimalist set compared to this.

The likes of Mamma Mia really have a minimalist set compared to this. There were some good moments- I liked what the bus turned into, I liked the two parts that involved the planes and I thought the fountain part was very clever. Also the concert sequences were well done.

Oh, strayed in here by mistake, thought it must be a jukebox musical about The Band - no such luck it seems.

Well, ten minutes into this my arms were folded and I was giving resting bitch-face a la Queen Elizabeth II.
There are so so many things wrong with it, not least the book (what there is of it) where Tim Firth once again tries to wrangle our emotions with all the subtlety and nuance of a sledge hammer. To say this is undemanding fluff is the understatement of the century. Shamelessly designed to appeal to the target audience, it takes no prisoners in its quest.
HOWEVER by the interval my fists were unclenching. The airport scene to Shine is a lot of fun with an imaginative set piece, if only the lighting didn't look so dirty (The Girls had this problem too, drab drab drab! is it the same designer?). The opener to Act 2 with the fountain scene is also clever, although even halfway back in the stalls I knew what the 'trick' was instantly, it was just a question of when.
And of course by the end I was up and clapping to the mega mix with the rest of them, hypocrite that I am. It could have been so much better though, and I'm afraid one of the main problems is the five boys. If only they had ditched the artifice of the tv show and cast some dynamic, professional singers and dancers with an understanding of stage presence it would have worked so much better. As it is, despite some cute moments, they're one step up from school concert.
Three stars. Rear stalls empty.

I do hope it's East 17. Always liked them!

^^ sounds like they're desperate to get bums in seats.
Seriously, this should be selling like hot cakes in Manchester. The nights are drawing in, the weathers crap and as we apparently have no taste oop north so what's not to love? If it can't cut it here with "guest appearances" things aren't boding well for the tour.

Tuesday is press night so not many tickets were available. Initially only the gallery went on sale. Earlier this week they'd sorted their comps and the remainder of the stalls went on sale. Hence many fans buying tickets, again, in the stalls. Their gallery tickets forgotten.
Mr Barlow has already tweeted Take That will be there, hence the panic. Perhaps Lulu will join them for a Relight My Fire reunion.

The press will love it!
I would have expected Robbie to have turned up too if he wasn't poorly and that would have made it all go crazy!
Without the appearance of "the boys" the review would be hidden in the papers, this will make it get a much more prominent placing.

Um, I meant what would the press think of the actual show. Not the celeb hype.

I doubt the actual show will get much of a mention, if Take That are there and the crowd go crazy. That may go in their favour.

I think the show is gonna need all the help it can get.
As Burly said, if they can’t pull in ticket sales here, then that’s not a good sign at all.

Retweet on the Band twitter page. Never seen this happen at a stage show before. Think this show is going to feed the bad behaviour thread for a while! Check out @davidsoho1’s Tweet: He's obviously not been to a pop show in the last 10 years where it happens every night

Baz seems to be doing a Band charm offensive on Twitter tonight, a few days prior to press night.

Yes and the production team are retweeting on Twitter, so basically condoning it. The Opera House front of house team appear to have given up. Not sure other theatres will be so tolerant and rightly so.
