Oh, full names don't bother me so much, but the email from my local theatre hasn't done full names, it just talks about Mark and Roger and Maureen and... Tom. It's weird. (Actually, I tell a lie, one of the news articles I saw says that "Benjamin Coffin III" has yet to be cast, that's a case of full names bothering me. Just the way the characters are having their names listed in various different places is weirding me out!)

Booked! £19.50 for the Saturday night preview seems to be a bargain for the centre of the second row How have you booked tickets? You know a code or have priority? Hm

No Day But Today
Whilst we're celebrating the 20th anniversary of Rent, lets not forget to take a moment or two to remember the Larson family who lost their son prematurely 20 years ago.

It's a show that meant a lot to me back in the day, but I doubt it'll be the same now I'm no longer in any flush of youth whatsoever. Still, it's coming to my local, so I guess I'll book myself a front row seat with all the legroom and a short walk home rather than trudge into London to gamble with the St James. I hope it's not a nostalgia production. Rent Remixed was a disappointment, but the general idea of trying to break with just doing a carbon copy of the original Broadway production was the right one. The good bits of Rent are so, so good, it's worth the effort of trying to keep the whole show fresh.

God knows why. Do we really need another revival of Rent?

Do we *need* any of the shows currently on or forthcoming? Sure, we need theatre as a whole, but I can think of extraordinarily few individual shows that are life-changing or necessary.

I wonder if this means it could extend or possibly transfer, especially considering it clearly has an audience and maybe could do a limited run somewhere in town, Charring Cross, Arts Theatre, somewhere intimate

Just panic bought a second ticket. Hope it's good!
I quite liked Rent Remixed. Was the first production of Rent I'd ever seen though.

I was going to be particularly sarcastic about this, but I can see if you knew no better Rent: Remixed might be enjoyable. I really hope you enjoy what I hope is a more 'traditional' version of Rent this time around.

I like some of the songs and parts of the storyline, but it really is not something that I actively feel I need to see live. Maybe I will just to say I have seen it live, but meh. The final Broadway performance left me feeling underwhelmed. I hated the staging and costumes!

It sounds like it's going to tour in 2017 though

But Candle Makers Daughter on the West End, Carrie or Dogfight and audiences would lap them up as they are fantastic shows.

I really hated Urinetown, didn't see Candle or Dogfight, loved Carrie. BUT as has been said before on here, I think all of them were niche appeal.
Urinetown has not been a niche appeal show in the US. Three and a half years on Broadway, following a successful off-Broadway run, it's one of the most produced musicals at colleges, high schools and community theatres across the country - see YouTube for many examples. The problem here was Jamie Lloyd's overblown production which, alas, trampled the joke.

The problem with shows set in an ostensibly dystopian future is they become less entertaining and harder to bear the more time goes on and we realise that the premise wasn't so far-fetched after all.

I think aspiring thespian was referring to this show website: www.rentonstage.co.uk rather than the St James one. EDIT: In fairness, a quick google of rent doesn't initially bring the website up on the first few pages, I only just happened to stumble upon it myself earlier this week
