I do think it is a bit over the top the Curve sent out emails and letters apologising for Lucie's absence. She was known for X Factor and now Eurovision, but she is hardly a big name. Like, I couldn't care really that she wasn't on, and Christina was great. I would of been more upset if Philippa or Layton was off. That being said, when I go back, I will be disappointed if almost everyone is off, because this cast is so damn spot on!
I think the trouble with Mark is I didn't think I could stand Mark going into it! I always found Mark so, so annoying and that is mostly because of Anthony Rapp, who I thought was crap in the original (granted, that is from bootlegs and the Cast Recording!), and so annoying just as a general person. I just cannot stand him, I can't understand why he is so popular and I could not think of anything worse than seeing him live! That being said, Adam Kantor was great in the Live Recording, and Billy was fantastic so I think it shows to me that it is Anthony is the issue for me, and not the role.

No, not announced absence. Off sick. I saw the notices about absences.
I always found Rapp fantastic in the role and delightful as a person at stage door etc. I think he always felt a responsibility and ownership of the show even back as far as the Shaftesbury days. He seems happy to be a 'mascot' for the show even now. Of subsequent Mark's only Joe whatsisname off of Holby City came close, but Adam Rickett gave quite a surprisingly sympathetic reading on the first uk tour without the required vocal strength.

I couldn't get over how good it all was. Especially Layton though. Having seen the original London cast and being wowed by the fact Angel was able to jump on a table in those heels!! Layton takes it to a whole new level!!

I'm hearing that Lucie might be out for the next few days, which would be sad for her to miss Cardiff. Does anyone know any more? The last I heard she was missing the Saturday performances but was doing the rest of the week. (the Saturday is due to Eurovision commitments I think)

I was also there at the matinee on Saturday. Having previously seen this at the St James and struggled to hear much of what they were singing, I was so pleased I got to see this again. Still absolutely adore Layton - what an absolute superstar. I also much preferred Christina to Lucie. For me her vocals had the edge and her characterisation was just enough without being too much (which I find with Lucie). A special mention to the understudy for Collins who really stepped up. Having seen Ryan before I didn't notice his voice was strained but I also don't think he was in La Vie Boheme. I just love this production!

Brilliant news. The source has been unreliable in the past but given that they are in regular contact with Lucie I assumed that the information would be accurate. Apologies if this caused anyone any distress. Rest assured that I shall kick his ass next time I see him.

It is great news she's well.

...everyone say sorry to my friend please. Lucy is indeed offthis evening! 😔 Oh dear. She was scheduled to be on Tuesday-Friday so she must be ill then. The show is amazing though, it doesn't matter, her understudy was fantastic. Don't be disappointed, the show is amazing and the cast is phenomenal! Philippa alone is worth the ticket price!

Another thing I am grateful for, having just been looking at production photos, thank god they changed up Angel's main outfit and hairstyle! I mean, the santa coat, zebra tights and bob hair were cute back in the day, but Layton looks hot in his outfit, and really makes it feel like a revival of a character and his own rather than previous incarnations all going with the same look in their main costume.

I mustve thought i was on a different forum Oh don't apologise, I'm a right miserable tw@t. The show however was outstanding and made me fall in love with Rent all over again. It actually looked like someone had directed it, for the first time in 20 years. And the performances. Wow.

Enjoy. From Lucie's twitter it sounds like she's hoping the antibiotics will kick in and she will be back

Enjoy. From Lucie's twitter it sounds like she's hoping the antibiotics will kick in and she will be back Well I'm glad she's feeling better but I'm wildly indifferent to her presence! (I saw it in London, she's great, but not the main draw for me so I'm happy with an understudy)

I feel a bit for Lucie as of all the venues she would've been looking forward to this one.

Hopefully she gets to do the rest of the week!

So glad you liked it! And yes it feels like it was built from the ground up again! Seeing it tonight hooray! Me too tonight! From the legendary Lower Stalls Row B! Bruce Guthrie directed the Royal Welsh College Musical Theatre MA production of Rent in December 2013. Will this new production remind me of that?

Tonight from the cheap seats in the side balconies, Friday from my favoured row A of the Circle!
And it will probably remind you of that production- the same look and feel but with some improvements (and obviously different cast interpretations) I very much like that Guthrie wasn't familiar with the piece pre that 2013 RWCMD production and so built his own version rather than following the blueprint.
