It's a shame British performers are getting less chances to lead a new west end show. The Book Of Mormon has yet to have a British lead, Dreamgirls started with 2 American Dreams which now is 3 and the replacement for Amber likely also American in Marisha. Groundhog Day..Andy Karl. The King and I coming up...the lead not British. And so on and so on... I'm all for u having some of these great performers coming over but it feels like British talent is being overlooked too much I agree. It's a travesty.

I think a lot of it has to do with the producer (in this case, Stage Entertainment, essentially operated by a Dutch businessman) and I'm sure for the premier cast at least, Tina Turner has a big (or final) say in who gets to do it. So if we were to judge simply by these two, maybe the nationality of the performer wouldn't even cross their mind. versus if it was a local producer.

That it was going to be Adrienne Warren.

My thoughts exactly. But questions is as a producer - wouldn’t you just want the best person for the job even if they are from Greenland to Timbuktu? In my experience thats very rarely the import. My list of unimpressive imported singers is longer than the ones I was impressed by. More often than not its an import because someone is moving their stable of leads around and has a gap to fill, someone has a dumb idea , or they just have no idea about the domestic talent, and can't be bothered to find it , or just reuse someone

Interestingly Jenny Fitzpatrick was the understudy Tina in "Soul Sister". I actually saw her perform the role in Nottingham.

Was just looking at booking tickets for this and there are virtually no seats available in April and most of May in the stalls...has this sold really well or are some seats being held back / not available through the official website?
Any advice greatly appreciated!

Any advice greatly appreciated! I had a look at tickets when they first went on sale and it definitely looked like they were holding seats back

Hard to tell. I was just checking out seats early October for a March ticket and was surprised at the limited availability - that was even before they had the press conference. I was surprised at how well it was selling in advance and I thought to myself okay get them now.
I've noticed there's a big craze with big pop musicals when they first open or at least during previews. I remember how well Kinky Boots and Bodyguard was selling during both their previews. Though they continued doing well on and off, I think tickets become more visibly available three months in.

I’ve seen a couple of expensive mid week ones in May that I could get, just not sure if I should take the plunge or wait a while!

A friend who works for the company promoting this has said they are doing staggered release of tickets and thinks that less than half the total have been put up for sale so far.

This is stupid. Why not put all the tix on sale? This has rlly annoyed me as we booked this when it went on sale but could’ve got better seats then rear dress had we known, for same price as well!

Athey don’t put all seats on sale, to give the false impression that the show is selling well and the unsuspecting punter browsing will turn into a buyer to secure their ticket, to ‘avoid dissapointment’ it seem s quite common now. I don’t agree it is stupid, but would say it is unholy wrong and borderline fraudulent and I hate being manipulated. Next year is certainly the year for the jukebox musical, both sides of the Atlantic.

^ I can't say I'm not excited about the jukebox offers next year: Tina, Donna Summer and Cher. And I'm seeing them all in a span of three months!
I just accidentally stumbled on a song by Cher called You Better Sit Down Kids, sung as though a father is leaving his family. I was thinking this should be used if Cher's father leaves them. Looked up her childhood on Wikipedia and sure enough..

I am the back of the dress and I was quite shocked that the stalls seems sold out for what seemed months. NOW WE KNOW! GRRRRRRR....

Why are tickets so bloody expensive for this? Surely it can't be as a big a hit at those prices? Yikes....
I am going to need to sell my body on Old Compton street for a ticket...but at least I will get a flyer to get into GAY Late for free

It is on my 2018 list to see but I'm not paying those prices. They even want nearly £60 for restricted view!! Not happening on my watch, I'll wait for the deals further down the line 😁

Not happening on my watch, I'll wait for the deals further down the line 😁 It’s pretty scary how commonplace it is now to see unobtainable prices for decent seats in the theatre. I’ve got by paying no more than £35/40 per ticket for a good four years but recently with the likes of this, Hamilton, King and I and Chess I’m either having to suffer with my knees due to bad legroom or with my wallet due to crippling prices. On a separate note, should we change the thread title to something along the lines of “Tina: The Musical” or just “Tina”? I am slightly obsessive, but it’s just a thought

What about the boxes? None are available for any dates. Does this mean they're being held back or they're not going to be sold.

Surely (bar Hamilton of course) these ridiculous prices are just going to make people not want to go to these shows when they can go literally next door to Mamma Mia or 42nd Street at a much cheaper price?
