Puzzled by the recent lottery reference as I entered faithfully every time and never won, then received an email from the theatre saying they'd stopped running it. So have they resumed it and if so, why not contact previous entrants or those who registered their interest?

Thank you, @theatremonkey; I've entered again now. Still peeved that the producers lacked the courtesy (or even business nous) to contact previous entrants and I'm wondering how many opportunities I missed, but if it's still selling that well, they won't miss a few hopeful bargain-hunters.

Listening to the Tina recording and it’s a bit dull. Plus as fierce as I think Warren is- I do not get what she’s doing with her voice. It ain’t nothing like Tina and it sounds so daft. Just confirms the disappointment I felt at how mediocre the whole show was. If it's any consolation, listened to the Cher Show cast album today - Adrienne sounds more like Tina than the lady on that does Cher.

But it’s the same problem of why listen to it when you can have the real thing!

Yeah I loved Adrienne in the role and think she's gonna be hard to replace (and still a bit bummed she didn't get the Olivier!), but I wouldn't really think to put on a cd of her imitating Tina not quite as well or authentically as the legend herself!

I’ve just been listening to the Cher Show album and she’s had more TUNES than I thought! I couldn’t really work out which singer playing Cher was which though, but none of them sound very much like her 😆

Adrienne's "River Deep Mountain High" is more powerful than the original recording. Shoot me but I loveee Adrienne on this recording.

Trouble with comparing the two is are we talking live, early recordings of Tina or in her comeback years? Btw gun crime is officially banned as it is a crime!

It's just a little thing called opinion.

George Harrison called the original recording by Tina the most perfect recording of any song ever written.Rolling Stone mag has the original at no 33 in the 500 greatest recordings of all time.Tina has 12 Grammys, sold over 200 million records and has even been awarded the French Legion of Honour medal.Having seen the real Tina live myself and seen the musical theatre imitation,my opinion is that although Ms Warren gives it a lot of gusto, she is not in the same league as the lady herself nor would she claim to be,I suspect. I have been lucky enough to see the likes of Michael Jackson,The Stones,George Michael,Madonna,Rihanna,Elton,Rod,Katy Perry and many others live in my life and their respective tribute acts are just that...good but not quite the same. That’s what separates legends from their imitators ... star quality! The actual point I was making and I will repeat it is - at what point in Tina’s career and in which performance or on which recording is the comparison between the two performers being made by the poster?

So, I am specifically referring to what I believe are both the studio records of those songs. Adrienne is sustaining those notes longer, clearer and belting harder than Tina did. However, of course it doesn't really matter because Tina is the original and the whole appeal of Tina is her distinct, unique, scratchy voice. And it doesn't matter how well Adrienne sings these songs, given the context in which they are being sung they will always be seen as an impersonation. However, from a pure performance point of view, I am so glad Adrienne's performance has been captured because I am really enjoying hearing this very strong take on these songs.

The Phil Spector wall of sound style on the RDMH recording is just as important in it’s singer IMHO. It is a magnificent example of both and totally deserving of its place on the list. It is so of its time, atmospheric and just generally ace. No interest in seeing a tribute show of it however flashy or well done.

Exactly. I think cast recordings of bio-musicals are pretty much redundant to begin with.

Would it of worked even better as a Live Recording perhaps, as opposed to a Studio Recording?

The actual point I was making and I will repeat it is - at what point in Tina’s career and in which performance or on which recording is the comparison between the two performers being made by the poster? It really doesn't matter, it doesn't take away from the fact that who you think is better or which recording you prefer is simply a matter of opinion. There is no right or wrong so whether George Harrison thinks Tina Turner's version was the best ever is really of no consequence to anyone's else's opinion, and doesn't alter the fact that people are entitled to think what they like about a recording and not effectively be told they're wrong. Anyway, back on topic. It was Adrienne's last night yesterday, so I wonder if this thread will die a death before she starts in New York? I can't imagine anyone else in the role so I doubt I'll personally be back to the show, though I would be intrigued to see her on Broadway.

I think / hope this show will still continue to do well in London for a long while! Adrienne was fab in he role and deserves all the praise she’s gotten for it. I was exhausted for her after watching her do one performance so no idea how she managed to do 7 a week for an entire year! She deserves a longgggggggg holiday now before she does it all again on Broadway.

We will have to agree to differ, poster J but I will say that facts tend to add weight and gravitas to opinion. Also my original question (see previous posts) has still not been answered...twice!!! The fact is that Tina is the original and Ms Warren is a mimic. Finally please do not try to shut me down in this thread as you have tried to do.

The show will indeed continue to thrive in the WE with others in the lead in my opinion and will tour one day I am sure.I feel sure that this thread will continue to be as popular as ever as it is the show that people will discuss and not just one performers’ part in it.Now that Adrienne has moved on it will give opportunities for new blood to come through and have their own success.

Finally please do not try to shut me down in this thread as you have tried to do. I'm doing nothing of the sort, just calling out what I saw as an implication that someone was not allowed or somehow wrong to think that Adrienne is better than Ms Turner herself. You are entitled to think otherwise, but people are entitled to disagree with you. If that wasn't your intention then fine, but that is what I read into a post that just stated "Really?" in response to someone else giving their opinion and nothing more. And I did answer your question - I don't think it is necessary to make any particular comparison at all, both can simply be taken on their own artistic merit and personal preference as to whom you would prefer to listen to.

poster j,You stated that because I was giving a different opinion to the original poster,I was ‘effectively’ (in your words) telling them that they were incorrect in their views. This is extremely judgemental and an incorrect understanding of my ‘tone’ on your part. When I posted the single word “Really?”, it was because I was genuinely stunned that the poster felt that there was any comparison between the original performance by a world legend and Ms Warren’s effort.I was interested to know WHICH of Tina’s many recordings of the song had the poster listened to as,admittedly, they vary in quality. To make a comparison and thus form an opinion,I queried what specifically the comparison was between. This is a valid request I feel and this simple question remains unanswered by you or the original poster! I know what I meant in terms of my first post and there was no attempt to belittle or patronise a fellow board member.I am sure that other board members are bored out of their skulls with this increasingly trivial dialogue on the thread so I will not respond to ANY further comments at all on this matter and instead accede to your greater knowledge and busy myself with more important matters in my life such as watching paint dry!🤭

I'm just describing my experience.

Sometimes the intent behind posts can be mis-read. Let’s not make an argument out of what everyone agrees are two undeniably fabulous performers please, and move the conversation on.
I’m taking some friends to see the show in the summer. I wasn’t fussed about going back myself and pleased I saw Adrienne in the role but they’re both looking forward to it. What do we know about the new Tina?

I hope it’s going well for Nkeki. Has anyone here seen her as Tina yet? My sis in law went last week with her work and said she really enjoyed the show but didn’t have anything to compare it to as it was the first time she saw it. She did say her colleague who has seen it before, felt it wasn’t quite as tight as previously when she saw it, but I guess with new leads and fairly new cast that’s understandable.
