This has been development for god knows how long. I imagine it’s not a remake per say more a second adaptation much like Spielberg’s West Side Story.

Has being original completely gone out of fashion these days?

Much as I love a good stage production of Guys'n'Dolls, I can't see the point of another movie version. It's rather old fashioned, and any attempt to rewrite it for a modern audience will kill its considerable charms.

The theatre world: "We're going to revive Guys And Dolls."
The public: "Wow, fantastic, I love Guys And Dolls, I can't wait to see who they cast in it and how they do it this time!"
The film world: "We're going to remake Guys And Dolls."
The same public: "WHAT AN ABOMINABLY TERRIBLE IDEA, ACTUALLY HOW DARE THEY."

Not altogether the same public or the same makers and that is why there is a difference. What do film makers think about the way films are being made into stage shows often with added music?

I don't like the original film - Brando just doesn't work as Sky for me.
There are some films that are just too iconic to warrant a remake
There are some films that are just not worth bothering to remake
Very rarely has there been a remake of a film that was a significant improvement on the original - I know it is tempting to leverage the success of an existing title. But there are many more stories that deserve to be told. Many more musicals that deserve to be translated onto screen.
Let's move away from remakes and try something new....

I don't think I've ever seen the original film? I may have, in passing. I've only seen the London production, the one with Sophie Thompson and Jamie Parker, then again with Oliver Thompsett, Rebel Wilson and Simon Lipkin.
