I was wondering what the folks on here think of this travesty and recent developments.

The whole thing is an absolute mess. It just reeks of privilege that the charges were dropped and the prosecutors made a complete hash of the whole thing. From what I’ve read, imo he’s so clearly guilty of fabricating the whole thing, and all he’s done is made it harder now for real victims of racial hate crimes to be believed. 😩

I think at the moment the FBI is investigating who's responsible for this deal/favoritism, as that in itself is prosecutable and also investigating the letter he sent to himself. Hopefully there will be some justice.

Hopefully there will be some justice. What I hate is that it’s now become a political issue. Trump and his far right supporters have managed to turn this whole shambles into an attack on the liberal left, and so whatever Jussie was trying to achieve in doing what he did has only succeeded in fuelling the hate and distrust even more, and given Trump a political weapon going forward. Of course I know this is jmo that Jussie is guilty of this, and other may feel differently ....

And here comes a guy trying to take advantage of it and insulting millions of people and spreading hate in the form of a made up attack. That's what happens if you commit crimes like this. It creates a bigger gap. Jussie did this, nobody else. You can call it "an attack on the liberal left", but what Jussie did was an attack on the right. Their reaction is fully justifiable, what he did is not.

But my point was that in doing what he has done he has given Trump and those of his far right followers a kind of victim status which they are going to use going forward to undermine legitimate concerns going forward about the rise of hate crime and white supremacy. Jussie did that with his moronic actions.

He may have "got away with it" and not gone to prison but surely his career is over?

He can build a career on being a professional victim... sadly

A statement that prescription painkillers made him do it, a well-publicised stay in some kind of expensive "clinic" in Arizona, and a tear-stained confessional interview with a suitably airheaded entertainment journalist MAY be enough to put him back on the map.
