It's a great feel good show, that doesn't take itself too seriously. The set is great (giant LED screens and double revolve) and gorgeous costumes. All the cast gave everything, it was hard to believe this was only second preview. Some stunning solo numbers from juliet and Anne Hathaway.
Going to be a big hit!

Well THAT my friends was a load of nonsense but it’s five star, gold plated rather clever nonsense.
The plot basically ‘revolves’ (and there are two of those) around William Shakespeare (Oliver T) and Anne Hathaway (Cassidy J) feuding because he’s always away writing and putting on plays leaving her drudging it out in Stratford. He’s putting the finishing touches to the play R&J and she decides to intervene and make it a bit less “all about Romeo”. After that it’s a play within a play as we see them disagreeing about the new plot twists Anne is putting in, as well as taking roles in the new version themselves.
After that there are many comedy twists and turns, love triangles, gender identity twists and a very funny Nurse.
The cast are brilliant, I particularly loved Oliver, and Cassidy’s voice is gorgeous (never seen her before) and of course Miriam TL is just perfect in that role. Just the right amount of youth and edginess. There wasn’t a weak link. The set and design are gorgeous. There’s money been put into this. The lighting is stunning, projections on massive screens on all three sides which I had to look really hard at to work out if they were LED rather than projection. Sound - crystal clear, I heard every single word which, considering these are pop numbers was impressive. Costumes are contemporary Elizabethan (I don’t know how else to describe) ruffs and puffs with sweatpants and trainers. Expensive. Your ticket money is definitely up there on stage.
Orchestra are off stage, they came on for the bows and got a huge reception.
Speaking of bows (and one of our members won’t be pleased at this) many of the audience were up and dancing during the last song, before the bows even started. I don’t think I’ve ever witnessed such a reaction. The audience were totally up for this all the way through.
Five big ones from me. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. Go see.

Nice to finally see you earlier btw Nice to see richey and burly (is that a drag double act Name if I ever heard one), have to agree with comments, for a second preview this was just fantastic, the cast gave it their all and Cassidy was fantastic - some light tweaks towards the end, however I can barely fault this show just such good fun. This is the kind of show we need right now - I think I grinned throughout. Loved it. Already booked a revisit. |

Tim Mahendran who plays Francois DuBois (aka Frankie Da Boy 😆) was last seen in the ensemble for Spring Awakening at the Hope Mill. Nice to see him back in Manchester in this much bigger role.

On a side note, the audience last night were extremely well behaved. I had worries that there may have been some drunken attempts at singing along but from what I could see everyone sat entralled by the show. There was lots of laughing and cheering but all in the right places and like Burly said, I've never seen an audience on their feet so readily for the final number.
Regarding the previous post about ushers encouraging photographs, I didn't see any of this. In fact an usher actually stopped one person trying to film Juliet's last big song. The few photos that I've seen online appear to be taken pre-show when the cast are on stage warming up and interacting with some the audience.

I’m so pleased people are enjoying it as much as I did on opening night! I’m going again on Friday and will probably book again after that as various friends have decided they want to go after I’ve chewed their ears off with how fun it is!

There was a brief announcement beforehand that photos weren't allowed and I didn't see anyone taking any. In fact, I did not see anyone on their phones at all which is quite unheard of these days.
There's not much I can add to Burly's comprehensive review but the casting team have got it absolutely spot on here. A fantastic mix of ridiculously talented singers and dancers who seem incredibly likeable. I went to stage door after and they were the nicest bunch and are absolutely loving this experience. It certainly comes across on stage!
Miriam could leave theatre tomorrow and make a name as a worldwide singing sensation. She is far better than most singers in the charts. She really is astonishingly good! Grace understudies her role and told me she has no scheduled shows in Manchester but will have for London. A load of her Six fans were in last night. Some of the show is very Six-y, the dancing has Hamilton ensemble vibes and the set a bit of a Follies feel.
Oliver and Cassidy's pairing was a dream. I love these two anyway.
Before the show opened and they said they were releasing the cast recording I thought it was quite ridiculously premature, but since hearing it I understand. I'll be getting it the moment it comes out and I imagine it will be something I play A LOT. I never would have thought that would be the case when I heard the song list.
Cannot praise this show enough really. It is going to be a huge cult hit with lots of repeat visits being made. I'm already planning my next one.

That’s a lot of songs! .... do they only sing abbreviated versions of them or is the musical largely sung through? I was planning on seeing this in London but I’m back up north west visiting my fam in a few weeks so might make an earlier trip! |

Some were abbreviated, others were fuller versions. There’s plenty of dialogue.
