Judy is not an easy sing, if she can't do it justice it will wreck the show.

Anyone got anything about Something Rotten or Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812 coming to the West End? I'm praying! I feel that Something Rotten didn't generate that much buzz. It's also been gone from Broadway for such a long time, that it doesn't seem to be so relevant or strong especially considering the strong contenders for West End at the moment. Come From Away was on such fast track to get in, and it did, and Waitress is finally in. I think the next one will be Dear Evan Hansen. As for Comet, I believe its first overseas premier happened just now (in Brazil). Not sure if the Japan production opened or not. It's s shame it is not getting much traction..it's such a beautiful and inventive show. I'ms surprised there isn't any talk of a Once On This Island transfer with its Tony win and success. It's such a brilliant little production (of a sort of crap story that happens to have a great score).

I thought that Comet was due to open in Japan in January? I know that news has been thin on the ground for that for a long while now, but I suppose it’s still possible, as the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre has a huge gap in its calendar for most of January still.
I’d like to think it’s still happening (fingers crossed) but it’s rare we get large numbers of Broadway transfers in the same year. Is the Marble Arch theatre still up after Five Guys?

Spain, Germany and Holland are all Stage Entertainment, who are co-producers. As they also own theatres in France, Italy and Moscow (now THAT would be interesting), they are probably aiming to take it there. They are the McDonalds of continental European musical theatre.
Korea and Japan, no offense, are crazy for schmaltzy historical European shows, they gobble up the Eurotrash from Vienna, adore Frank Wildhorn, etc.
So while both areas are valid targets, it doesn't spell massive demand worldwide and whether the show will be a success anywhere remains to be seen. London with its vast choice of shows and more sophisticated theatre-going audience will definitely be a much harder nut to crack. Still, thanks for linking the article, means I can now lean back and wait for the Dutch production to arrive which will cost half as much as the German one and gets me a weekend on the beach in the bargain.
Stage Russia never owned a theatre, just rented. And they lost both 2 of their theatre buildings - both to their competitors. We are currently going through the theatrical rivalry of the century: last year SE Global dismissed the Head of SE Russia, the guy who is respectfully considered to be one of the founding fathers of the musical genre in Russia (and the one who came up with the idea of turning Anastasia cartoon into a musical and organised the first read-throughs). This guy opened his own theatre company and rented the building SE Russia has been "living" in for almost 15 years! So SE is currently homeless in Russia, they promise to return next year but chances are weak.

Although I wonder about the wisdom of opening -another- big show in March or April along with Come From Away and Waitress - won't they cannibalize each other? There isn't much opening in late autumn, so if someone brought a new bigger show in now, they'd be ahead of the rest.

There isn't much opening in late autumn, so if someone brought a new bigger show in now, they'd be ahead of the rest. It’s a bit tight for time to bring in a transfer from Broadway, I wouldn’t be shocked if Dusty goes into the the Piccadilly from November

Almost tempted to make a separate thread for this, but having seen the extremely successful run at the Fringe and resulting online feedback, I'd say its very likely we'll see BOP & National Theatre of Scotland's My Left/Right Foot transfer to London for a duration soon.

This year certainly hasn't been dull, with 5 high profile closures, with Chicago, Dreamgirls, Kinky Boots, Young Frankenstein and now Strictly Ballroom, which was the worst show of the 5.
On a brighter note Come From Away and Waitress are signed on to play the West End, the Savoy and Piccadilly are free and waiting there next show, hope something decent goes in, maybe Dear Evan Hansen, Mean Girls and Anastasia are all rumoured to come over.
Could it be that the Prince Edward and Shaftsbury will become free soon, as both shows have slowed down. A poster who works in the industry also said that Thriller is starting to lose money, so the Lyric could be available also.
I wonder if An Officer and a Gentleman will go in the Piccadilly as a filler and in the long term we may have barricades at the Piccadilly with Les Miserable being a possible next tenant?

Motown has confirmed closure in April, so you can include that and 42nd Street in your list.
