Sorry, I didn’t realise this was meant to be a site where everyone just happily agrees and lives in the land of tra la la la. But what I do realise is that freedom of expression is still a thing and, that freedom sometimes means others will say things you do not agree with. Maybe THAT is what you should be chewing on rather than attacking others just because they haven’t joined the rest of the chorus? If you can point me to the area of this thread or site that discourages the sharing of opinions on either side I will gladly take heed. Otherwise, get used to the fact that while some opinions may be strongly favourable, others might be in the opposite direction. I think the point is that you’ve said nothing new in your numerous rants including that most embarrassing beast; the ‘consecutive-looks like you’re replying to yourself-post’. I’d read the room. Nobody is saying you can’t have an opinion; just exercise some restraint with the snark and rudeness if you want to be listened to.

I'd love some advice on day seats for this. I'm already seeing the Phaedra matinee this Saturday so figure if I want to see this I might as well do it as a two-show day all in the one building. However, with it being the last performance I'm assuming it'll be even more difficult to get day seats and I may have to queue up quite a while before 10am when they become available. How early do people reckon you'd have to get there to be secure in your chances, or is my perception totally wrong and they don't tend to go that quickly and I'd be alright getting there for 10am?

Managed to get back to see this for a second viewing last night, and whilst I still love it and think it's a delightful piece of theatre, I definitely picked a lot more holes in it this time - the ending of Poppy's story irked me more than it did originally (the woman behind me let out a very long, very loud sigh at the conclusion and I felt her pain)
It's still great, I'm still really glad it's packing out the Olivier, but I wonder if repeat visits to this will cause the shine to wear off...

I think this really suffered from overhype for me - I bought a ticket after seeing all these rave reviews, but it was far from the best show of the year for me. All the acting parts were great for the most part, but in a musical, if two characters have a fight I expect them to have that fight or an emotional reaction in song, and not for two characters to have a fight, after which someone random comes on stage and sings a pop song about being sad. It just felt very distancing from the characters.
I think I'd have enjoyed this more if I'd gone in expecting absolutely nothing or worried about it being boring, because then my verdict would have been 'not a show I need to see again, but at least it was an entertaining evening.'

Saw this on Monday: Got some returns on Saturday, annoyingly after losing 2 sets of entry pass seats thanks to work conflicts, meaning I paid top price, but well well worth it in the end.
Can only echo what everyone else has said, I throughly enjoyed it. Easily one of the best things I've seen in a while.
I loved the direction and the movement, some kitchen scenes with all 3 storylines at once were incredible. I can see why they argue that this is a play with music, the book does a lot of work, and does it very well.
Yes, the music stops the pace, but I found the music hauntingly beautiful. I loved Girl from the North Country, similar model in terms of music fitting the mood, and I adored that same model here, as well as the music.
I thought Faith Omole was a revelation as Joy, well deserved Olivier nom. I cannot for the life of me understand how Rachel Wooding was not nominated!!!! Criminal Behaviour. She was the standout for me. After the rain was sung just beautifully. She made Rose so real, the excitement and giddiness of new beginnings and a wonderfully developed character arc letting her show us all the emotions. A masterclass in acting and singing.
While I enjoyed Maimuna Memon's voice, she sounded lovely, but I found her character so annoying. Could be as I found that storyline the most jarring. Poppy's ending in general, like others have said, was such a disappointment. It was the one part of the show which let it down for me. It felt quite 'soapy' where as the other two story arcs felt natural and more authentic.
Act 2 songs did start to sound a bit samey towards the middle, did feel like ballad after ballad. With that being said it didn't drag in the slightest of which I was starting to get scared of; after a near-faultless first act.
Set was great, sounded well in the Olivier from the central stalls. At it's core it is an ensemble piece, all of which created a beautiful night at the theatre.
Hope it does well at the Oliviers and has a further life as I would love to see it again. I wouldn't be surprised if it done another season in the NT, like they done with Follies.

I got one today. Showed up at around 7 and was first there. A few people came over the course of the next hour but most didn’t arrive til 8-8:30. I wasn’t specifically checking but I think by 9 there were probably enough people there to account for all 20 tickets. Based on today I’d say 7:45 would be a good time to show up to play it safe, but of course who knows what tomorrow will look like.

I guess I'll see how spry I'm feeling tomorrow morning haha, not sure I can stomach getting up early enough for that on a Saturday though! I'm sure a transfer or at least a return production next year is a pretty safe bet so I'm not too worried about missing it this time around (though I would like to see this cast if I can).

I've just requested to return a ticket for tomorrow night (I had a spare), so it should be popping up on the site at some point!

I loved this show more than any other in recent years. It was a magical combination of elements that came together to create something truly special. A show with humour, heart, and the perfect soundtrack.
I made a second visit to catch the final performance on Saturday night. Extra emotional performances from the cast and everyone came on stage for a big hug after the final bows, but no speeches.
There surely aren’t many shows out there that can reduce so many people to tears simultaneously?!
I wonder what they’ll perform at the Oliviers - 'There’s a Storm A-Comin’’ would be a strong option - big ensemble number, choreography and a banging guitar solo...

I thoroughly enjoyed this. I found it ambitious and exciting: very pleased I got to see it before it closed. At first I wasn't quite sure about {Spoiler - click to view} Jimmy's death Thought it was a bit of a cliché, especially as it kind of came out of the blue unlike {Spoiler - click to view} Harry's decline, which seemed more integrated into the story, but then I just gave in to it. Horrible freak occurrences are a part of life after all. (It just meant that {Spoiler - click to view} the two white straight males in the story were the ones who didn't make it to the end alive!) Fabulous performances though. And yes, the songs didn't further the story the way they would in a traditional musical, but that didn't hugely bother me either.

I don't really know what kind of tone shows are aiming for usually for awards performances, but I'm hoping they do Coles Corner. I feel like it represents the show pretty well and shows off both Faith Omole and some of the choreography.

That is good news. Chris Bush was interviewed on the Radio 4 Today programme this morning and I was hoping that she'd say something about a return. But presumably the details aren't finalised yet as she didn't say anything about a future life for the production. She got only a very short slot and spent some of that explaining that the project was already set up (a musical about Park Hill featuring the songs of Richard Hawley) when she was brought on board.

Some of us have known since 27 March 2019 that Sky's Edge is special. I did write about it at the time! Is this the first time in history that a play has won the Olivier Award for Best New Musical?
