To all the women who make great theatre for us to enjoy, and especially to all the smart, dedicated, and funny women who make this board THE place to talk about it!

Shout out to the women! May you be fabulous each and every day of the year and may we celebrate you today.
I'm celebrating by seeing a production with an all women creative and production team (including one female dog, not IN the play sadly).

Happy Women's Day!
I really hope total gender equality is achieved.
And to all men complaining "oh but us men don't have a Men's Day" (I've heard this several times), you totally don't get it and you are the reason this day is needed.

Also, there is an International Men's Day, November 19th. Ridiculous I know.

Also, there is an International Men's Day, November 19th. Ridiculous I know. International Men's Day is intended to highlight men's health issues like prostate and testicular cancers, and the high rate of mental illness, depression and suicide among men. Nothing ridiculous about that.

Nothing ridiculous about that. I thought the Men's Day was a joke but I can see that it is useful to highlight what you mention samwise. Thank you

A day late but entirely due to the reviews (hadn't even known this was coming, let alone had any interest in the film or sailing), I saw Maiden, the documentary about Tracey Edwards and her crew in the 1989-90 Whitbread Round The World race. It was "only" 30 years ago (which doesn't seem that long from my perspective) and I must have been aware of it at the time, but I recalled nothing of it before seeing the film and was astonished by the sexism and the attitudes of those who used to be called "male chauvinist pigs" though that term has long fallen out of use. I can certainly recall that from the 70's and early 80's but hadn't realised it had persisted for so long, though I suppose that as with most significant change, it was a long process which indeed is still happening.
The great thing about a well-made film (or play) is that you don't have to know or care about the subject if the human interest is there.

I wonder what happened to those 'male chauvinist pigs'?

I wonder what happened to those 'male chauvinist pigs'? I’ve got one alive and well over on FB objecting to an advert for a female driver for our theatre company’s current tour (its an all female cast, all disabled with support needs and sharing a room....before anyone asks why) Despite my informing him that any “Court Case” the threatened was my business as chair and to stop harassing staff he’s now telling people to, I quote “calm down dear” so fear not Lynette the breed is alive and well...
