May I just drop in a tonyloco anecdote about Ashton's Cinderella that I saw a number of times when I was a 'regular' at the Royal Ballet back in the 1960s. It was of course one of Fonteyn's great roles and she was never less than superb in it, but at those performances when Ashton and Helpmann danced the Ugly Sisters, Margot was always very aware of who the audience had come to see and although it would be wrong to say that she coasted through her own performance, one could always sense that on the nights when Ashton and Helpmann were not on, Margot knew that she was the true star of the show, and so she gave just that little bit extra. The balances in the climactic pas de deux were held just that tiny bit longer and there was a full portion of the unique Fonteyn magic throughout every step she danced. You really couldn't fault what she did on an Ashton Helpmann night, but, my goodness, you certainly got the full A+ show when she alone was the star!

I agree that they should bring back Ashton's Cinderella to ROH. This practice of always giving us The Nutcracker was not the case 10 - 20 years ago. I do love their Nutcracker, and it's one of the few examples of the work of that excellent set designer Julia Trevelyan Oman left in The Garden's revivals now that we have a new Boheme. Another beautiful design she did was for Eugene Onegin (opera) in the Solti era. The only other example of her work still being revived is the wonderful 'A Month in the Country' - another Ashton classic. But it would be great to ring the changes around Christmas. One thing they did present a few times at Christmas was Ashton's 'Tales Of Beatrix Potter.' * This ought to have been a winner but after the first five minutes of delight at the wonderful costumes was boring as hell, the costumes preventing any interesting choreography (or much movement at all) with a stultifying score arranged by John Lanchbery. The whole thing lasted around an hour but felt much longer.
*Always as a double bill, often with the vastly superior 'Les Patineurs,' or 'The Dream.'

I wouldn't have thought it's likely Tchaikovsky will make an appearance in the 2019/20 season as we also had Pique Dame this year. There have been many seasons without Russian rep at all.
Aida, I was thinking about that a few days ago. Not a good production either, but probably not worth reviving.

Add Madam Butterfly Hoping for something with Elina Garanca, also Anita Rachvelishvili I have a feeling that Elina doesn't like the opera house much as apart form Cavalleria Rusticana last year there had been a gap of over 10 years (if my memory serves me correctly). I am so bitter that she never sang Anna Bolena at ROH with Netrebko, that looked incredible. Anita Rachvelishvili would be good too.
