Have purchased John Owen-Jones' new album (via Pledge music) for which a download link has been sent. It says click on the .zip file but on my android device it appears as a .html file. I believe I need a third party unzip app, File Manager by ASUS is suggested on the instructions. Is this correct/OK/safe. Are there better alternative apps. I'm always a bit nervous with add-on apps to be honest. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Sounds like it’s downloaded the webpage than the attachment. Check the file size (right click> properties) your probably looking for something around 100MB, if it’s KB it’ll be the wrong thing downloaded.
Is this on a mobile device or computer BTW?
