Ok so I'm finally on the booking website after what feels like longer than the timeline of the show and I can't decide between Row S of the stalls for £60 or Row U for £45. I'm leaning towards Row U, I mean does it really matter missing the top of the stage if this is just in concert anyway...
Anyone sat in U?

Just booked for the matinee on 23rd October...plenty of seats left for all the dates I looked at. Took me a few minutes to decide what date to book for until I remembered that I’m in London for the first preview of Mary Poppins anyway...flying back on the Thursday and would prefer to see John Owen Jones, so #winning.

I got caught up in the Hype and have booked for a matinee the day I'm up for Mary Poppins. Omg did the same only realised tonight. So went back in the queue and managed to get another seat and I will try to sell my ticket closer to the time when it's sold out. I was surprised for the days I wanted not many tickets available. One of the Saturday afternoon shows was sold out except for a few very expensive tickets. |

A “semi” insider’s view:
It is worth mentioning that personalities play a huge part in casting of shows.
If you know the right people and are of limited talent you may “get on”. Particularly if you’re on your knees or bending forward with decision makers. If you’re supremely talented and could go so much further, but are a nightmare to everyone, with HR involved multiple times for instance, this may work against you. I’m not suggesting this is always the case. People may very well think that. I’m not commenting as I don’t have any info about this specific case. Speaking generally though, if we think about our own jobs - if it’s in a shop, a call centre, an office - people are people. People will hire people they like as people. In theatre, as I’m sure loads will know here, the audition is part of the process. Verbal references decide the casting process.
Some performers can be absolutely brilliant but may treat people (by people, it could mean co-stars, ushers, stage crew, anyone) very poorly. If this behaviour isn’t corrected, even the most talented of performers can find themselves “out of favour”.
It’s all about playing the game a bit and business needs. Much smarter people than I could come up with a clever formula; personality>talent=work or something but I’ve seen casting decisions I can’t explain.
Personal opinion; JOJ is the best Valjean out of the 25+ I’ve seen live “in the wild” and based purely on that is the best in terms of both acting and singing. He is definitive in my eyes, speaking purely as a fan.

The original production in London. A new concert semi-staged version. Then a new version and cast moving into London. There's the UK Tour too of course. Is that not enough different performers playing the roles in enough different ways in enough places to please everyone? I'm not a huge fan of the show. I have seen it once in my lifetime but all this has made me book the "last" London show, the Tour and I am contemplating booking the concert version too. It's made me excited about this show. A show that, according to many in this thread, has gone a little stale in recent years. |

I caved and bought tickets to see the original one last time. Can’t believe I’m saying/typing that.
Had a look at the tickets for the concert at the same time. Still lots of availability across dates so everybody should be OK.

Only 50 in the queue now!!!
Edited to add that I have not booked, £127.50 or £97.50 too rich for me for decent stalls or dress circle seats.
Far more availability for the JOJ performances. AB performances very heavily sold! I would say if you want to go you do need to book ahead for this.

wondering what the chances are that the concert version will be filmed and screened in cinemas once the run is over? The price of tickets combined with travel and accommodation I don't feel I can justify it.

Got through with no waiting now. It appears it's just the weekend performances that are now on limited availability, the first two Saturday nights and the last show being unavailable now.  |

When I went online at around 2pm yesterday & saw I was around 26,000 in the queue I hopped on the train & went to the box office.[ The only advantage of being over 60 - free]. Within 15 minutes of getting there I was outside again clutching my cheapie ticket for the first Saturday evening.

No delays or problems booking for the Gielgud now. Got a central row B stalls seat for the matinee on Wed 6 November. Very pleased I wasn't at home trying to buy a ticket amid all the chaos yesterday.
I'd already booked to see Music Of the Night at the RAH that evening so a perfect combo. The schedule for that show also includes Les Miserables !
