Or 'A Song for Europe' in old money! " Eurovision: You Decide is back for 2019 with a brand new format! Eurovision superfan Mel Giedroyc and the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2015, Mans Zelmerlow, host live from MediaCityUK in Salford as the show comes from the north west of England for the very first time.
This 90-minute Eurovision extravaganza gives viewers the opportunity to vote for the song they want to represent the UK at the biggest music competition in the world.
In an exciting format change, each of the three competing songs is performed in two different ways, by two different acts. A celebrity panel and viewers at home make the decision on which song represents the UK at the sixty-fourth Eurovision Song Contest, which will be held in Tel Aviv, Israel, in May 2019. The show features special performances and surprises." Next Friday, 8 February, at 7.30pm on BBC2. Songs available here: www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p06yvc6q

If those are really the best 3 songs we could have found, we aren't looking hard enough.
Always nice to see Mans!

The songs are are just SO generic. The lyrics are terrible and all of them repeat themselves too much.
My choice would be Sweet Lies sung by Kerrie-Anne. Its the best of a very bad bunch.

Oh the songs are TERRIBLE! It takes 3 or 4 people to write this s***! Clearly no songwriter of any distinction wants to be associated with Eurovision! Why do we even bother?

Sweet Lies - v1 - This was potentially the strongest in the recorded version - but she isn't doing it for me live. The voice is lacking real oomph - it goes very thin on top sadly. The backing dancers are totally cringe. And the song, in the end, goes nowhere. It could have built and grown - but this is just rather flat.

Sweet Lies - v2 - I had written this off on first listen. But she is a very accomplished live singer. Though she needs to work on her diction. Staging clearly needs work - she needs to make more connection through the camera to the audience who are voting... Clearly having issues with the mic stand - which is somewhat throwing her. Song really peters out in this version - it needs something more dramatic.

This format doesn't work. They should have heard all 6 songs and then made the choices.

Freaks v1 - very weak start. There is nothing Freaky about this performance or the song. The chorus is slightly hook-y - but probably better suited to a Christmas advert (with different lyrics - of course)
There is a big no from me

I just saw Sweet Lies. That's me done. Typically nothingy song and she sounded flat. Mel Giedroyc's horribly forced enthusiasm and the judges trying to sound like it was one of the best things they've ever heard... It's all too cringey.
I've switched over to the April 1987 TOTP on BBC4 and, excruciating as it is, it's still a blessed relief. I have no memory of Fine Young Cannibals massacring Ever Fallen In Love.

Freaks v2 - harmonies are all over the place. It is painfully bad. Utterly dreadful.

I'm only watching it for Mans as he is performing later. Not liked either version of the 2 songs so far and those 3 girls were out of tune. but its all a waste of time anyway. Europe never give us any votes and this year when we are out of Europe means we will probably have a minus score.

Well that was just bizarre - voting for a really bad girl group just because they are girls is just weak.

Bigger than Us v1 - so much fringe. And two pointless dancers. We shouldn't be sending a country version of anything. It is just not us.

Why are the two dancers dressed as cowboys? Its not even a country and western style song.

Bigger than Us v2 - ditch the finger clicks. Bit weak in the opening phrases - but he opened out well. He and Holly can both sing better than the others - so why can't the public vote between the two of them???
This version has a slight anthemic quality - which could work.
And a key change!

Sweet Lies gets weaker on second performance. She hasn't got the vocal chops to perform it live.
Freaks is as bad second time round - in any other format, this wouldn't have got to the public vote.
It has to be Bigger than Us - we will get slightly higher up the right hand side of the final leaderboard. But not much.

Yes have to agree. This is the best of a bad bunch.
Just watching the Graham Norton bit and I'd forgotten that The Lord actually appeared on stage at Eurovision.

If Mans is having his trousers ripped off, we deserve better camera angles... it's an outrage!

And the nation is underwhelmed. Europe is underwhelmed. But it was the best choice out of a poor set of songs.
