Anyone else enjoy this programme? Seems such a lovely man. And I loved seeing the snippets from the plays again. He is a great talent. But reminded me of the early David Hare , so I hope celebrity and success doesn’t do that thing of fixing the creative spirit into one set of ideas as I feel it has done with Hare. Graham said he is working on a play about the early secret services. Bring it on! And a musical, how interesting. Might get me to that.
The title of the programme was 'in the room where it happens' Did nobody mention that this is a song from Hamilton? I think Mandleson uses the phrase in the interview and he probably knew where he was getting the phrase from but perhaps it escaped Yentob.

I thoroughly enjoyed the programme. I have only seen one of his plays and marvelled at the intricacy of the writing. He certainly seems to be a workaholic which it is to be hoped those close to him are able to help him with. He is such a tremendous talent we all need to appreciate it and wonder what treasures his long term can bring. Oh and his mother seems to be a force of nature!!!!

Watched the documentary tonight. An absolutely fantastic insight into the guy both personally and into how he constructs his plays. It’s great to see a young playwright have the level of success he has had and the fact that he was mentoring other playwrights in his Sketching play should hopefully provide great encouragement to all those involved in the project in their own careers.
It was nice to hear about future projects. I’m definitely interested in the security services play when it turns up.

Watched it on my journey home this morning. Very good indeed! Lots of great insight into his writing and plays. Interested on this musical with a “pop star”. Wonder what that could be.

Very good, shame the BBC/Yentob seemed unable to comprehend that he is/wants to be even-handed. Good to see lots of clips from the plays. No mention of Monster Raving Looney As a theatre-goer I feel very protective of him and so hope we don't lose him to TV, hopefully that will just provide him with funds to continue to write plays.

This was wonderful, can't believe there was a whole programme on a playwright (yes I know it was probably the Brexit tv deal that sealed it). Seeing the clips was a great trip down memory lane, they should just do cinema James Graham play days, would love to revisit some of these. I know what you mean Polly1, would be sad if tvs gain was theatre's loss.

I enjoyed this too. For added brownie points he gave a talk at my daughter's East London state non selective school last year on the importance of developing new young voices. Clearly a lucky man in having the mum and family he has.

Lovely portrait of a lovely man. Much more about politics and Brexit (the real one not the film) than I was expecting.
Someone RT a sweet blog post by one of the emerging Sketching writers about what it was like working with James this morning. You get the feeling it was a better experience for the writers than the end result suggested. I wonder what he meant in the docu talking about not knowing how much time projects take.
I know what the musical is, it's an adaptation of a popular film and going to be opening on Broadway first. All I can say is it's completely different from Graham's previous work in more ways than one.

He said "musical with a pop star" in the programme and he already has Finding Neverland under his belt with Gary Barlow. One is still pondering!

Let's play twenty questions. Is the film Post 2000? Is it a fantasy film? Is it Sci- Fi?
Ok, come on people weigh in and please bluetoothpick answer the qs.
