Megan Hilty Don't Forget Me is one of the most incredible performances I've seen. I completely agree. This is still one of my favourite performances I've ever seen, I think she is just incredible in this scene, vocally and performance wise.

Thanks for posting the videos @emicardiff! Now I remember why I liked "Don't say yes..." -because boys, that's why.

My only complaint being they didn't do the full staging of it where we'd see them 'in costume' Haha, true! It's nice to watch these clips now and recognise actors for their other work. Let's be honest, when I watched Smash for the first time, I had no idea who Brian D'Arcy James was. But years later, I have a completely new appreciation for their work. I think that one of the dancers in "Don't say no..." is Spencer Liff, who was the choreographer for Head Over Heels and I saw him perform in many "Kennedy Centre Honours" videos. And young Aaron Burr is there. And Marvin from Falsettos. And Wesley Taylor, who recently played in Spongebob. Smash did a great job in being "Glee for adults" but without the teenage drama and autotune.

Smash did a great job in being "Glee for adults" but without the teenage drama and autotune. Tune into Radio Wales Review Show this week and you will hear me use the phrase 'Grown up Glee' ...yes lads, I got Smash into my Radio debut. And I am not ashamed. See for me, Smash came at the perfect time (serious face on) it's no secret (certainly to you!) that I have had a YEAR of it. I fell out of love with theatre a bit if I'm honest. But I was a Broadway teen (well in my twenties) and I fell in love with this ridiculous world through the message boards, and the culture and obsessing over Broadway...and Smash gave me all that. Will Chase, who was my first Roger, Brian D'Arcy James, who I adored and obsessed over in The Wild Party, then endured Young Frankenstein for. Christian Borle, who, well. And it was that WORLD that I loved. And I know it's a ridiculous fairy tale version of it, but all that teens/twenties love affair with Broadway came rushing back when I watched it. And I needed that. I also spend an episode shouting 'BITCH I KNOW HOW YOU FEEL' (I might have been drunk) when they want to change the title, change the work and then shut people out of the rehearsal room. Because I was going through the same thing with my play... I need to throw a drink in someone's face, and possibly write a blog abou this show!

And a special mention must go out for all the scarves that Debra Messing wore during season 1. She had that layering look down pat!

JUST finished the final episode😢(i have the week off, I would not normally be lounging in my bed at 11.30 on a Thursday morning) what a great series, one I feel I will be re-watching many times! Loved the music, the story and the cast!

I'm surprised no one's brought up the Bollywood Dream Sequence yet... I'll never recover We've all repressed it. I still maintain that Raza Jaffery was playing his Spooks character on an undercover mission in Smash.

Im also amazed no one has mentioned Bernadette Peters, particularly her fabulous performance of Everything's Coming Up Rose's which Wesley Taylor has said was one of the great thrills of his career sitting metres away watching her do that about seven times, and refusing to do it to a backing track.

I'm surprised no one's brought up the Bollywood Dream Sequence yet... I'll never recover It’s not even a guilty pleasure for me, I love it! Lol I got to go to the one night only Bombshell concert in NYC a few years ago and it was amazing! I don’t think I’ve ever been to a show with so much energy from the audience, and I came away thinking how, if they could come up with a decent book, it would be a great musical. The Bombshell score is so good.

I'm surprised no one's brought up the Bollywood Dream Sequence yet... I'll never recover I love that number! it's like Raza is giving us Bombay Dreams, Part 2!! it's so over the top and as stupid as it is, Ellis swooping in to steal the jewels still makes me laugh. Just watched it again for the first time in ages and it reminded me of 2 things. How did Brian D'arcy James, one of the best voices in the world, not get to sing in Smash?? And the other was their awful child... whatever happened to their adoption storyline that vanished over night??

I think I remember reading that the show runner had based the character of Julia on herself and that is why storylines like the adoption were given so much time. Once she left I assume the storyline was just dropped and they concentrated on other (more musical focused?) stories.

For anyone who frequents the WMC a cover version of 'History is Made at Night' is on their FOH playlist, I did a little Marylin sashay to it on my way through yesterday.

Absolutely loved Smash and was gutted it was cancelled as it seemed to be getting better and better. I ordered the Bombshell album immediately after watching the first episode and hearing Let Me Be Your Star, some great music throughout both seasons. Did Brian D'Arcy James ever sing anything in it? I don't seem to remember him getting a number.

I also loved Smash, I think it got unfairly slated. It was ambitious and also playing to a fairly niche audience so I guess it was doomed really. I utterly loathed the character of Karen as played by KMP, and got to a point where I would fast forward through her singing bits. Took me a while to acknowledge how talented this actually meant Katharine McPhee was and to be able to listen to her music without wincing (still can't polka though!)

Introduced my best friend to Smash yesterday! She seemed to really enjoy it and we made our way through the first four episodes. Her 3 month old baby was also enjoying it, he laughed everytime Anjelica Huston was on screen! (when he wasn't asleep)

Random offer - anyone want a copy of the sheet music for Let Me Be Your Star? I have a handful of the booklets leftover from when I was promoting the show but doing a clear out so they'll soon be going in the recycling bin. Doing so will be painful...would much rather them go to good use.
I can post or you can collect from central London, whatever's easier. Message me if interested!
