Very excited by The Nose! It was the first opera I ever saw, ten years ago in St Petersburg, and it remains one of the strangest things I've ever seen on stage.
Shame it's in English translation though :-(

Yup, the translation for The Nose makes no sense to me. Didn't even notice in my first perusal, guess I won't need more than one ticket for this one...

I know the opera snobs turn up their noses at Adriana Lecouvreur but to me it's pure bliss.

Shame to see that Anna Netrebko has dropped out of Norma - a bit surprised that she has done so less than a month after the programme was announced. She says that her "voice has evolved in a different direction". Given that the project has been in development for several years, if I was Pappano, I might have been happier if she'd made that decision in March. Anyway, I was particularly looking forward to seeing the tenor Joseph Calleja again, and Netrebko dropping out means that tickets will be easier to get and probably cheaper.

Yes, the ROH statement said something about 'frustration' which I think was opera-speak for 'mad as hell'. But at least she let them know before tickets went on sale.

This is exciting! Wasn't going to book for this, knowing that Netrebko was no longer in the cast, but this news may have just got me interested again.
Still longing to hear Netrebko live in something though!

Yoncheva seems to be having a nice career replacing Netrebko! I saw her in Faust 2 years ago after Netrebko pulled out of that.

Sign me up! Disappointed that Iana Salenko isn't going to be here for Fille, I'd love to see her as Lise.

Been a lurker on these boards since the site change. Great that fille is back. I saw the last production via the cinema but this time i want to take my father who is 83 for real. Can anyone give me tips on where to sit ect and make it a really special occasion for him. What do the best seats cost. Is a box worthwile etc? On sale tomorrow i believe... best to book via web or ring the office...?

Booking for next season opened this morning
Suspect you'll get multiple different answers on the "best" seats but I'd go for the stalls or stalls circle. Best sightlines (I think) are in the stalls circle facing forward - so you're looking out over the stalls with a clear sightline. Alternatively if you need to be nearer the front half of the stalls would be better, but bear in mind the rake isn't brilliant in the stalls. Suspect the view from the boxes isn't as good as you're at the side.
If it's a special event you could also look at food options - I think you can book a table, eat beforehand and also have it available in the interval.

Bought my ballet tickets today! One round each of Anastasia and Fille, I'm a little tired of the Nutcracker but I'm sure I'll inevitably end up going and enjoying it again. Likely to add a Fille too, I've booked for Hayward/Sambé but have got to see Marianela again. Oops. Taking a ballet newbie to that one, too.

I don't go to the ballet very often, but I've heard a LOT of praise for Fille, so I'm going to give it a go this year. Wish me luck!

I've booked for The Nose & Les Contes D'Hoffmann. I also booked for the JPYA Jukebox concerts but then discovered when I went to update my theatregoing list that I've managed to double book myself, which is annoying.

The Nose seems to have 'filming' dates. I can't see it on the cinema page, though. Anyone know what's happening with that? (Eg YouTube/DVD?) The decent affordable seats have all gone, so unless I queue on the day/the £100 seats get reduced nearer the time, it looks like I'm going to have to miss this at Covent Garden itself.

It says on the website that they are streaming the last performance of THE NOSE free via YouTube. I imagine they will subsequently want to release it on DVD too.
