Not quite sure how I feel about that; promoting Russian Musicals whilst the Russians are currently out actively hunting and hacking at actively gay men.

I hope you are ok with Russians using this forum. You do realise, that people creating/working in musicals and "actively hunting" are not the same people?

Regarding the musical itself: if you have a chance to see it - go check it up, it clearly shows one of the paths Russian musical has taken, following the steps of French ones we had here 15 years ago (Notre Dame De Paris, Romeo et Juiliette): it has main characters, ensemble and "dancers" (they don't sing at all), the costumes are rich and colourful. But it lacks character development and proper direction, and some actors manage better than the others in such situations.

Obviously don't tarnish everyone with the same brush, just saw the slight irony of the situation.

When people start talking about "bad Russians" I really feel they are forgetting that not all Russians are the same. And for me it feels pretty much as if I am a person of colour hearing smth like "quick, hide your purse, this dangerous n*ggas here may steal your things". BTW, even in the middle of the diplomatic scandals and everything UK and Russia continue working on business relations and cross-cultural projects. This year is UK-Russia Year of Music. And the UK Ambassador (my ex-boss) keeps emphasising the importance of people to people links continuing even when our governments are clearly not on the same page. This is well away from the actual topic but - in his recent speech, he mentions that UK really benefits from Russian tourists, Russian businesses and so on. Just look at how much money I already added to your economy seeing about 70 shows in a year! www.gov.uk/government/news/speech-by-british-ambassador-to-russia-at-the-rbccs-russiatalk-investment-forum

I'm a big fan of checking out the varying styles of musical around the world, and english subtitles certainly make this more appealing - but like Someone in a tree i couldn't make a mid week matinee screening. I wonder if this will pop up anywhere else or on any streaming services? hmmm...

My guess is that if someone decides to re-screen, it will be Pushkin House. Maybe you could contact them and ask if it’s a one-off? www.pushkinhouse.org/events/2019/1/20/premier-screening-anna-karenina-moscow-operetta-theatre
