Just got an email that Monday’s show is now canceled, as well. It’s still on sale? Well this is the email I just got - “Unfortunately, despite extremely robust measure being in place, members of the Moulin Rouge! The Musical company have tested positive for Covid. Therefore the performance of Moulin Rouge! The Musical on 06 December 2021, will no longer go ahead. Please rest assured that we will contact you in the coming days to confirm the options for booking. Please disregard any automated pre-visits emails that you may still receive, and we apologise for any confusion this may cause. Thank you for your continued support. We look foward to welcoming you to see the show on a future date. The ATGtickets team”

Tuesday too unfortunately.
Feel sorry for the wonderful cast but the management really needs to enforce the audience mask wearing because hardly anyone wore one the night I saw it.
Why Solt aren't mandating masks is a total mystery. They will regret it.

It must be a fair few people having it for this to be happening? Aren’t they still in previews though so unlikely all covers etc are rehearsed and ready to go.

What a strange coincidence it would be, if after the Covid cancellations were over, the leading man just… never returned?

Maybe some extra tickets they were selling? Time will tell

Why Solt aren't mandating masks is a total mystery. They will regret it. This is nuts. On Broadway, its a known thing that everyone wears masks and they check for vax card and ID. If people are spending this kind of money on theatre tickets, they should feel safe. This is going to keep happening. I thought MR was one of two shows (along with Cabaret) that had a mask mandate at the theatre?

I don’t see how the two are linked.
The cast more than likely picked it up travelling to and from the theatre- or you know, living their lives.
I do agree though that it’s madness that theatres aren’t enforcing mask wearing. One problem with this show is that, when I went at least, most people around me were knocking back drink throughout the entire show. Everyone taking advantage of not having to wear a mask while you are eating or drinking. It’s a losing battle when they are encouraging drinking in your seat.

I thought MR was one of two shows (along with Cabaret) that had a mask mandate at the theatre? A mask mandate at the theatre doesn’t stop the cast and crew from catching covid at home, via family or housemates, whilst commuting, where lots of people still refuse to wear masks or whilst going about their normal lives, shopping, socialising, exercising at the gym etc. When one person has it in the cast, it’s hard to stop it spreading - dressing rooms are shared, they are dancing together in close proximity etc.

I am not intending to make a direct link between the covid cases within the Moulin Rouge cast and the lack of audience mask wearing but masks in general reduce transmissibility in the building so if I was an actor my strong preference would be to perform in front of a masked audience. Lauren Ward from Dear Evan Hansen has tweeted to that effect as have others including Jason Manford. Moulin Rouge made a whole thing on how they were going to enforce mask wearing, and announcements were duly blasting out through the auditorium, only to be comprehensively ignored by around 70% of the audience and there was no enforcement. As mrbarnaby says it's hard to do so when drinks are taken in. Cabaret checks for the negative covid test but again, inside, doesn't mandate masks wearing (but unlike Moulin Rouge never said it intended to). I'm the same as everyone else here, it would absolutely break my heart if all these wonderful West End shows and theatres had to shut down again, and if a booze ban during the show and a mandate to wear a piece of cloth around your gob in some way contributes to preventing a shutdown, then I'm totally here for it.

There’s no chance in hell that they’d ban alcohol given how much of a revenue generator it is for the theatre.

I believe we have TWO out of over 30 open theater on Broadway now that aren’t selling food/drinks - the Sondheim & The Beaumont. Every other theater is still selling it but people do just pull their mask down to drink then it goes right back up. Failure to keep your mask on actually means you’ll be removed.

It’s quite amazing the mentality of Brits. Absolutely no thought for anyone else, or the industry that has suffered so badly.
