Interesting to note that even if Pretty Woman proves to be a massive hit it will run at the Piccadilly for only about a year. I've said this before but I suspect ATG aren't expecting Pretty Woman to be huge, it'll probably do its year then go on tour,

This is superb news, a great show, with this one you feel you have really seen a show.
I am all over the cast recording, the elephant song which I love on both versions on the cast recordings, however the Broadway version is killing me now.

Yay! So glad we’re not being lumbered with Pretty Woman for ages. Cannot wait to see this. Any predictions on casting then folks?

Exactly - and there isn't even a touring production of Pretty Woman so his tweet doesn't make sense, unless they are setting up the UK production of it to tour immediately after the West End.

I think you misunderstand.
They are putting a touring (cheaper cut down ) version in as they plan to tour it straight after London.
Quite what a cheaper looking version of that show will look like fills me with dread.

I mean Germany already got a carbon copy in Hamburg and shows here rarely last longer than 8-9 months in one venue anymore, so it'll be easy to shuffle around. Should it become a major hit in London, they can still look around for another venue in the West End or first send it on tour and celebrate a "triumphant return to the West End" or something.

Well this is indeed very welcome news!
One and a half years away though?! Hard to be excited now. Has there ever been an announcement of a musical with such a long advance? Can't quite believe they are gonna cast it now - who of us know what we'll be up to Spring 2021?!
Must say would have preferred somewhere other than the Piccadilly which I find slightly grotty (the carpet in the stalls is beyond filthy). Also I know seating capacity is on the West End higher side but stage feels relatively narrow. What's the theatre like in Broadway? I have the impression that once the elephant and windmill have gone in, views from anything other than central seats would be somewhat restricted. I guess they have thought this all through though....
Also unusual to have a new show announced when the upcoming new show hasn't even started. Poor old Pretty Woman. Though if it's as cheap as they say, does indeed sound as if it could tour immediately, using the London set....
ANYWAY, despite above reservations, very excited for this :-)

I wonder what is going onto The Savoy? That is the only theatre left to fill really isn't it after SITPWG?

I though SF was quoted as saying there were no theatres free for it to come yet? Which surely meant something else was lined up for there because otherwise that would have been the obvious theatre for MG to go into.

Looking at the pictures of the set and the theatre it's been in so far in America, it's quite hard to see how it will fit into The Piccadilly. The stage and auditorium look far smaller and to me it looks like it will all have to be scaled down rather a bit. It's always a bit disappointing when we can't get the splendour of the Broadway counterparts.

Lots of shows waiting in the wings! Indeed. Waitress is on borrowed time. Be interesting to see if the producers wanna go through the rigmarole of a full cast change when it comes up to the one year mark (and of course to stunt cast it through 2020....) Returning shows also seem to tail off quickly after initial flurry. So much as I like it, can’t see Poppins getting much beyond a year. And the Dominion thing is only a limited run!

But I do agree with your sentiments and agree that the Savoy is the perfect theatre for Mean Girls, also worth noting that the box office seems to have dropped off on Broadway recently. Also this is another show like Dear Evan Hansen, Moulin Rouge and Anastasia, that the set is via video screens, so can come over on a portable hard drive.

There are NO video screens in Moulin Rouge- it’s an actual set. You do realise that even shows ‘via video screens’ do actually have physical scenery too? They were talking about Mean Girls, not Moulin Rouge
