Who knew so many board members look after Bette Midler!?

Hi Don. I’m sure your post was appreciated by many including myself but people want this rumour to be true so badly, that anything that bursts that bubble won’t be welcome news in some quarters. I’m sure you’ve built up a thick skin running a fan forum, so please don’t take it to heart and keep posting. I’ve been lucky to see Bette twice in concert, she’s amazing. Haha, I personally am not that fussed if the rumour is true or not. I wouldn't call myself a fan of either Bette or "Hello Dolly", and had the opportunity to see this in New York last year, but didn't. But all I'll say is that someone seems keen to promote their Bootleg Betty website.

The only fact here is that those of us who aren't lucky to have insider information are just getting more and more confused and frustrated by each new post that claims to know something (or rather, not know anything).
I appreciate scoops are nice, and it's probably fun to know something before the rest of the world (I wouldn't know), but this thread has become a prime example of why it's probably less hassle all round to wait until something has actually got to the stage of being almost ready to be announced before letting it out of the bag. Otherwise all we get is a load of false hope and excitement for what now looks to be nothing...
And someone new to the board shouldn't get offended about being queried or not trusted - you can surely understand that it's a lot easier to believe regular posters with a proven track record than someone who has seemingly signed up just to post in this thread and contradict what has already been said.

Mrbarnaby must know something factual involving Bette, London, & Hello Dolly to post it here AND for it to be allowed to stay on here by the mods.
The mods have, in the past, removed posts claiming shows were coming (even when they were actually coming!) because no "official" announcements had been made
The fact the mods haven't removed mrbarnaby's post OR this thread goes against their previous practice with others, making me think it must be true.
Unless they apply different moderations to different members?

I bet after all this build up, it'll be Caroline Flack.

I don’t mean to burst anyone’s bubble, but I talked to Bette’s assistant last week about Bette doing “Dolly” in the UK, and she said @not likely” Plus Bette is scheduled to make 3 movies this year. I mean it’s possible she could do all that, but I woukd Be Just a little skeptical, just in case. I do hope she is able to, do ya’ll will have a chance to enjoy her performance and the musical You expect Bettes assistant to tell a random stranger that she’s doing Hello Dolly in London before it’s been officially announced? And because she didn’t, you don’t think it’s happening? Okaaayyyyy...!!!

I got a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend, who is Bette’s favourite Barista in a well known coffee chain and she told her she is all set to come over to the West End this year, but she will be taking over the role of Christine in The Phantom of the Opera.

Well my postman knows Bettes uncles postman and he said Bette will be replacing Louise Redknapp in 9 to 5

Oh you're all fools. The 5th cover Midwife's cat's postman's uncle's goldfish's daughter told me at the Wicked stage door the other night that Bette is our new Elphaba, with Bernadette as her standby.

That's really sad I didn't know that. I haven't seen her perform in years. Although in all fairness I saw Bette Midler in Dolly and she screeched her way through some of those notes. Where there's a will theres a way.

I can remember a very few occasions when we've been asked to remove things when someone has disclosed confidential information prematurely, but I can't remember any specific instances and that may even have been on the old board. I know there were certainly some on the old board because the report came through WhatsOnStage itself. If anything, you could argue that the fact that nobody's contacted us to ask us to take this discussion down is evidence that there's nothing in it.
Looking at the sheer number of speculative threads around shows that we very obviously do not remove things on the grounds that they haven't been confirmed, because that would be nearly everything.
The reality is that in this case, as in all the others, we don't know any more than you do. I can't imagine how we could.

Yes very sadly Ruthies voice is a sad parody of what it was. To think it was once so glorious. A real lesson in taking ruddy care of your voice. I would loved to see her play Irene Molloy at some point (In better voice)

It's sad that people who claim to love musicals would throw out/dismiss one of the West End's Leading Ladies because her voice has aged. Ruthie is a fantastic storyteller and I'd still pay to see her.

I heard it's a revised version with a gender swap and it's now called "Hello, Donny!".

I don't what we're debating. This role and the outfits are perfect for Lulu.

Yes, she had a fantastic voice back in her Les Mis and Miss Saigon days. I hadn't heard her for years, and got a shock when I first watched the Billy Elliot DVD. At first I thought she was putting it on for the character, but then I realised.

Well, we are on page 15 discussing a show which has not been officially announced AT ALL, let alone who is to star!! LOL.
But it is a discussion board after all and it is fun speculating! Lets have more fun in 2019 - god alone knows we are going to need it!!!

That's not entirely fair. Carol Channing sang every note of the score - she just doesn't have a conventionally attractive voice.
