As I understand it, having spoken to a SOLT voter; The Arts theatre is eligible (something about them paying a certain minimum) The Charing Cross theatre and Menier are not. An American in Paris opens too late to be eligible for the 2017 awards (Hard luck - they'll be up against Hamilton in 2018) Dreamgirls is (in the eyes of SOLT) definitely a new musical. I can't believe they are considering Dreamgirls a New Musical, that is ridiculous.
I know I should probably not complain and I will get crap for it, but it is ridiculous for it to be considered as a New Musical, regardless of it never being on the West End, it has been around for 30+ friggin' years! They should do a Cinderella on Broadway and consider it a Revival.
But it's never been in the West End. It is new to the West End. |

I wouldn't be surprised if Funyn Girl gets three Supporting nominations (or one Leading, two Supporting), for Darius, Joel and Marilyn. In terms of Sheridan or Natasha getting nominated, well, if Sheridan returns, it will be hers!

I think it'll be the leading actress in a musical nomination that'll be tough. I presume it'll be Amber Riley, Sheridan Smith, Beverley Knight and someone else from another production. That'll be hard to call. I think Funny Girl will win best revival and maybe Dreamgirls for best new musical if it's really good!
Hopefully I'll be able to bag tickets this year! Has anyone been before - what's it like?

You cannot do a nomination list until all the shows have opened surely.
The Olivier award goes to the greatest performance by the persons sex, not who you think will be the greatest, Glenn Close still draws the line in the ground.
Beverley Knight could be still nominated for Bodyguard, the same way Martine McClutchon and Joanne Riding were for the same role in My Fair Lady.

I think it'll be an actress from either The Girls or SoR but we don't know them yet. Yeah I agree Darius is probably supporting but I couldn't be bothered to do all the supporting stars too so put him in there, it could be Dewey from SoR who is placed in best actor |

Like I said, it is only predictions and nothing true!! Just saying who I thought. I dont know what you mean about the person's sex? What's that got to do with anything apart from what category they're put in? I only made a new list as the old one had basically every show in London and most of them couldn't be nominated or wouldn't be nominated. I just thought this seemed more realistic and is my opinion of the 5 acts nominated in each category and all predicted at the moment. |

I doubt SOLT will consider Murder Ballad for nomination unless it's exceptional. The Arts hasn't exactly had hit after hit and none of their shows there have been awards worthy I think Breakfast at Tiffany's could be nominated but i dont know about Pixie Lott, I've heard she's good. Beverley should be nominated but i dont know the rules regarding that so that's why I put a question mark there. I spent along time time putting the original list together and made edits, what people have suggested, it is a long list as intended, so it will have everyone who is/isn't in contention - not for you or go and copy my list, so it meets your requirements, if you think you can do it better start your own thread not plagurise my hard work, anyway your list is slanted to who you like and not based on fact like the Dreamgirls will get nominated that the Olivier voters really love Glee, many people on here have said that The Girls is basically crap, but you know better George, like how many times you need telling that Sheridan Smith isn't going to be on a London stage anytime soon.

I think there are plays that probably will get nominated over Breakfast at Tiffany's like Amadeus, Saint Joan etc I always assumed that the Best Play Revival was judging the production as a whole, in which case I don't see how you could prejudge Amadeus and Saint Joan before they've started rehearsals or even been fully cast. On the other hand, I always assumed that Best New Play is awarded in part on the quality of the text. But it's never made clear, is it? We just get some theatrical celebrity reading out the name of the award and then ripping open the envelope to read the name of the winner, with absolutely no scrap of information as to why they have won. So they could all be awarded to the show which paid the judges the biggest bribe, for all we know. |

Why shouldn't other members be allowed to put their own lists of shows and/or actors which they think are eligibile for an Olivier together and post them here? After all, this is the thread about next year's Olivier awards. If someone started another thread about the Oliviers 2017, I'd merge it anyway with this thread to have all the discussion together and not split over several threads. Lastly, how do you know for sure that your list was copied instead of put together from scratch? Surely you can prove this after making these accusations. |
