I'm not sure who you are referring to but I enjoyed seeing ex-Conservative Party leader Michael Howard say "Beaver" as an answer to one of the questions.

Anyone watch tonight’s episode St Catherine’s, Oxford versus St Peterhouse, Cambridge might see an old friend on it? i didn’t see it. Who was it? I usually watch the show, my claim to fame is that I was team captain of a beaten semi - final team in 1996!

I thought it was a very entertaining episode, with both teams well matched, despite a rather uneven start, and everyone contributing sensibly, which isn't always the case on this quiz on the celebrity version or the normal one!
The old friend referred to by Phantom of London was presumably Michael Billington.

I've never wanted anyone to lose as badly as Michael sodding Howard. Argh. Billington bloody gave it away at the end too. *shakes fist*

He got 2 or 3 starter questions right, they would have won if Michael and a teammate didn’t hit the buzzer by mistake. Likewise seeing someone who went to Brasenose College, Oxford and represents an antique programme and didn’t answer on question, not even the secondary questions. I think the boy faired well.
Brave of Michael Howard to face his old foe Paxman again, at least Paxman this time didn’t ask the same question 10 times!!!

I'm glad Exeter lost last night as I got fed up with them conferring on starter questions. How come Peter Jackson is a legend at the BBC but he can't master the basic rules of a quiz show that has been going for decades? Very W2.
Edit: I now realise Exeter won but they failed to qualify as one of the highest scoring teams. I was just glad to see the back of both of last night's teams.

Apologies. I meant Paul Jackson, not Peter Jackson and W1A, not W2. I think I have been putting too much brandy in my mince pies.

They must dumb it down for the old codgers/clebs. I got the first eight questions in a row right (granted those included Bernstein's centenary and You'll Never Walk Alone) and even got two out of three football questions correct. Shocked at Billington's lack of arts knowledge!

Last night's first picture round, naming mathematical shapes. Anyone else look at the second picture and just go, "that's a bum!"? Just me, then. No, you and quite a lot of Twitter.
