Grace Mouat in Six. She does an amazing job at covering six roles that are so demanding in such different ways. It is made even more impressive that she is the ONLY swing in the show, and it is her professional stage debut.

I also need to give a shout to Amy Ross in Wicked. She has totally reinvented the role of Elphaba by putting her own unique stamp on the role. It has brought a fresh new portrayal that the show has needed for such a long time. In fact, all the cast of that production are brilliant and it makes me really sad that they only have a week left together as a company.

- Jade Anouka
From Downstairs at Hampstead to main stage at Manchester Royal Exchange, a presence and enthusiasm that is contagious.

- Charles Edwards
Made Absolute Hell bearable.

- Patsy Ferran
Totally encapsulates every character, a presence that lifts every role she plays.

- Paapa Essiedu
Never disappoints and continues to improve with every role.

- Maxine Peake
Never really noticed when her back was to me as the stage revolved, a true master.

- Andrew Scott
Only 30 minutes this year, but god were they special.

I've seen some really great performances this year. Besides those already mentioned above, David Dawson in Aristocrats (delighted to finally get to see him on stage), Erin Doherty saving The Divide, Carey Mulligan in Girls and Boys and Julie Hesmondhalg who is so good I think we take her for granted. I'd like to mention some emerging actors who were impressive - Ria Zmitrowicz in Gundog and Dance Nation, Kayla Meikle in DN and ear for eye, Norah Lopez Holden in The Almighty Sometimes at the Royal Exchange, Eleanor Kane in Fun Home and the young cast of Big House's Loose Lips at Stoke Newington Town Hall - really vivid, heartfelt performances but I don't have a programme so can't namecheck them (sorry!)

(Btw, I was surprised the posters for Summer and Smoke didn't include Patsy Ferran's name, and in big letters - they will next time!)
