A few years ago we were enjoying Madam de Sade. Around the middle of the play there's a scene that ends with the women getting up and walking through a door and out of sight.
The split second before this action occurred someone's mobile went off with a silvery, old-fashioned ring tone. It was very loud. I thought, "Wow, they had telephones in 18th century France?"** I mean, the thing rang and rang and the actors got up and went into another room -- AS IF TO ANSWER THE PHONE.
I thought it was brilliant.
**Yes, I know the telephone came about 100 years later.

Good timing may have added a bit of comedy here. But how is it so blooming hard for people to switch their damn phones off?
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I remember the good old days, when taking your phone to the theatre meant trailing fifty miles of wire behind you.
