Although I'm pleased that TheatreBoard has been able to make such a large donation to such a worthy cause, and I thank the moderators for making the arrangements, I'm puzzled why such a relatively small number of members actually cast a vote.
Perhaps those who didn't vote decided all the causes were worthy, or perhaps the numbers speak for themselves? Despite being pinned in such a prominent position, this thread has had only 277 views; the thread on the Christmas meet up has had over 12,600.
Even if I hadn't voted, I'm sure I'd want to find out which charity received our donation.

Although there are 2,503 registered members here, far fewer of these are regularly active (and I hear tell of some who literally never make it out of the Wicked thread). The Christmas meet-up thread (for example) will have received *so* many more views because it's an ongoing discussion, with people making multiple posts and making multiple trips to keep up with the conversation, whereas "here are the possibles, please vote for one, we'll let you know" is pretty much just a one stop shop. If you don't pop in key phrases like "btw we've got some solid rumours for West End's Dear Evan Hansen" then a thread isn't even going to attract the casual theatre fan who doesn't want to join a board but certainly wants to keep on top of hot theatrical gossip. It doesn't reflect people's values, it's just the way a discussion board works.

Not just in the nomination process (which I can understand if people don’t know any charities to nominate) but also in the voting. A very low number of people voted which given the number of visits we get by registered members seems low. Our aim has been to let members drive this process but maybe we have to think about whether we are approaching it in the right way. Leave it with us and thanks for the feedback. |
