Not sure if there's a thread on this, but Avenue Q is heading out on tour next year, Selladoor producing. (Source: Capital Theatres Edinburgh brochure). Can't say I've seen any of the cast in anything, but it looks like it'll be good! I have to say Selladoor have been on point recently, between Fame, Rock of Ages and Madagascar all having good success. avenuequk.com/

Their last production of this was excellent I saw it twice it transferred from small to mid theatres to pretty big ... although these were discounted quite a lot a really excellent production

Caught the tour yesterday for its first night in Wimbledon. I believe it's the second week with the new cast (almost all of whom are new to the production).
The theatre was full. Mostly an older audience, which surprised me.
I've seen the New York production a lot, but the Selladoor version only twice before, so it always seems strange to me to see Gary Coleman played by a man (as well as a few other line changes).
This version is very good, but the small scale is completely swallowed by the size of the theatre, including a large scale. Everything seems even further back due to the orchestra pit (and I was only in the third row). The audience was rather quiet for the most part too, which didn't help.
The TV screens are also badly placed, being so near the ceiling they're difficult to see.
That's not taking anything away from a fun production. I liked Lawrence Smith as Princeton/Rod, even though he used quite a similar voice for both. Cecily Redman as Kate/Lucy was excellent as well and a great vocalist.
Glad to see this is selling well. I think you'll enjoy it the most in one of the smaller and more intimate venues, but it's certainly worth getting a ticket.

Worked better in the Alexandra I think, although the monitors are still positioned very high. Same cast. Much more receptive audience, laughing in the right places. Fairly full, for some reason four empty seats front row centre (but the Alex sell those as premiums and ineligible for discounts now, so that's probably why - I was further down the front row where discounts were available).
Think the cast came across as more confident too now they're further into the tour.
No further dates in my calendar but I'll check where this is touring later in the year. Should also be catching the New York production before it closes.

Saw this yesterday afternoon, I knew bits of the cast recording (namely the most outrageous bits) so I thought I’d give it a go and I really enjoyed it. It fits the Alexandra really well although from the rear stalls I couldn’t see the screens. As much as this show is fairly low-budget in terms of set, it came across really well and I thought the whole cast were lovely.

Agree with previous poster that screens are in an awkward place. I recommend going to see it if it's at a venue near you

They play short video clips, no more than 30 seconds long, maybe 5 or 6 of them in the whole show. Largely parodying Sesame Street style informational films. Sit near the front. The screens are tiny, so there's no advantage sitting further back. And it's better to be near the front to see the puppets properly. Definitely worth booking for, so long as you're not too easily offended.

Fortunately for me that's unusual as I almost always book a front row seat when I can. There are a few theatres where the stage is particularly high but most of the time possibly reduced leg room / conductor presence / high stage are minor inconveniences to be so close directly in line with a show. I saw Avenue Q from the front row at Wimbledon on the opening night. That theatre warns that front row patrons will miss about 50% of the stage. That's nonsense, more like 5%, but don't tell everyone ! The ultimate front row for me was 42nd Street ; that one I would have paid a premium for but I secured front row seats at a good price four times out of five there.

A bit naughty but nothing like as controversial as Book Of Mormon. I've already seen it twice this year and have Eltham (amateur) booked for this Thursday and Cardiff next week Let it be a surprise and it should be a nice one, but there's plenty of Avenue Q on You Tube including a complete show if you want an idea what it's like

The cast are continuing to play around with the roles and I spotted a few changes since Birmingham. Lots of new jokes, with some good one liners added during Internet. I notice that Nicolas McLean now seems to sing a lot of his lines (but Gary Coleman must be a hard part to play - I rather got the impression that a lot of the younger members of the crowd didn't have a clue who Gary Coleman was).
The Stalls looked pretty full, couldn't see the other levels. Quite a quiet crowd, but they did laugh at times.
The closing joke is now "Theresa May is only for now".
The show remains on fine form. There have been offers around for every venue so far. It's well worth catching this cast.

Was there tonight with my wife and daughter.Top level closed and back four or five rows of stalls nearly empty.Got row G on a deal.Very funny show and some catchy songs.Very skilled puppeteers.Glad to have seen it for first time ever but wouldn’t want to necessarily rush back again and again. Cecily Redman was the stand-out vent/voice-artiste for me as Kate/Lucy.Am going to get the CD.

If I’m correct the 5.30 show Friday was cancelled noticed mid week was taken off sale ... every night upper circle closed too but they often do that in wolves now But love this show and this production is pretty strong worth catching esp with. Caught this on Friday evening in Milton Keynes, having only ever seen a (very good) amateur version in Dorking many years ago.
It remains a lot of fun, although certainly less risky than I imagine it felt when it premiered. The cast were really energetic and the male and female leads both had tremendous voices that got a real workout. All in all, I was very impressed, even moreso for a 15 quid ticket.
The audience were a bit sparse but very appreciative. The Upper Circle was closed. First time at MK Theatre and not overly impressed... it's a nice enough space, but the FOH was managed very poorly. All bars apart from the main one closed, huge queues, and they were allowing dozens of people into the auditorium several minutes after the start of both acts which was really distracting. Also, what is it with ATG and their "e tickets" having to be printed? What a nonsense. Hardly an "e" ticket!
