It sounds awful.- I'm begining to wish I hadn't booked. Me too and I'm going tonight. I have an awful cold and I don't like Smith at the best of times! Will go with an open mind, as much as I can

Would honestly say go with an open mind! It is head and shoulders above the Kenwright tour which has been the mainstay of Joseph in the UK for the last 35 odd years!
There's good and less good in there but the music is so infectious, it's a very hard musical not to enjoy.
I'll be fascinated to hear other people's opinions as the run progresses :-) I so expect Sheridan will polarise people. I'd have preferred a classic MT interpretation no doubt, but it's very clear the target market absolutely love her....

But again what do I know - the audience LOVED it and she had them eating out of the palm of her hand. (Audience btw was not massively cosmopolitan and was very white, rich, middle aged. I was slightly worried I was in a sea of Brexiteers and certainly Essex and Kent must have been empty last night lol). Dom, I normally really enjoy reading your posts but found this particular line a horrible generalisation. That said, your review was excellent - thank you. I'm going tonight so will see for myself - it sounds like a schizophrenic production.

Honestly no offence meant to Essex or Kent however (the former was my home for many years)!

Sounds awful, I can't wait!
If this really is 'Sheridan's show about a Dreamcoat' how will it fare if she's off?

Sounds awful, I can't wait! If this really is 'Sheridan's show about a Dreamcoat' how will it fare if she's off? I was pondering that last night - I think the producers are gonna be in trouble if she's off. Certainly I have several mates, not really into MT, who are seeing this as they want to see Sheridan. She really is a national treasure and I don't think we can underestimate that!

I can’t agree that SS has reached National Treasure status. If her people carry on promoting in the way they have been I suppose I can see it happening barring any ‘falls from grace’. But that younger audience that she’s built up need to go through a few years with her first.
If I think of other people who have become NT’s then Jane McDonald springs to mind. She’s there now but it’s taken 20 years and a hell of a lot of exposure on tv to get there.

I would argue that Sheridan is far more well known and more of a "national treasure" than Jane is.

Standing tickets available for £10. Not bad for this one considering how short it is.

But seriously, back to more pressing issues - are people suggesting that there are no fit ripped bodies on show? Surprising given the Egyptian sweltering setting of the show and also given that it's always been a traditional gimmick of the show to have the Joseph flaunting his abs

I can’t agree that SS has reached National Treasure status I think she has, given the number of people intent on burying her and her career at times... She’s certainly had a good crack at being a tragic ‘Garlandesque’ figure in the past, but hopefully those days are behind her.

Yes, you take a risk booking before a cast is announced, but it certainly was not clear this would be the Sheridan Smith Show from Day 1.

Anyone have any experience of the standing tickets at the Palladium? Wasn't going to bother originally but for that price I'd like to see it.

Wonder what ALW made of it all last night? Haha I wondered that - he is always pacing behind the sound desk at the back of the stalls on first nights; usually looks anxious. He must know Sheridan doesn't sing it as originally written - as to whether he's happy with this - who knows!
