Oh and the social distancing was on another level to any theatre ive been to recently. In the stalls, 1 guy had 5 seats spare either side of him!

I still don't entirely get the Joseph hype, it's too cheesy at times and the story is barely there at all. Plus the less said about Jason Donovan, the better - I didn't understand a word he sang and most of it didn't appear to be in tune.
But some of the kids were charming and Jac Yarrow was wonderful, so overall it was fun.
And it really was Linzi's show, she is just fabulous - exactly the right amount of humour, audience interaction and throwbacks to the past, plus that fabulous voice. She alone is worth the ticket price and the audience knew it.

As I got a last minute booking I had one of what was originally two seats plus there were two other that had already been blocked off. Agreed Linzi nailed it again tonight. Ovations for the introduction and Pharaoh Story. The woman on front of me was amazed when I told her who it was during the interval. She said she thought she'd recognised her voice off the 91 recording. And yes Jason wasn't great- he slipped up on some of the lyrics during the megamix

So as my final show (number 13) of my theatre holiday, that was the best way to end it. 7.30pm, Saturday July 17th 2021 at the London Palladium will live long in my memory. As the overture started and Linzi’s appearance as the curtain rose, the atmosphere inside that beautiful auditorium was just electric and for the entire show she had that audience in the palm of her hand. The comedy bits felt so natural with her. Having never seen her in the original production, this was a 30 year wait that just exceed all my expectations to make my final night in London the dream finish. At the curtain call, you really could tell that there was a lot of love for Linzi and she one very special lady. Whatever show she is in, it’s just an absolute pleasure to hear her sing,
Sitting in the Royal Circle in Row K, it was an absolutely fantastic view to see properly the stage lighting design that I missed sitting in the stalls on Monday and having a wonderful view of the orchestra doing their thing.
As a bonus with the IT issues yesterday, I managed to get a souvenir ticket from the box office to stick in my programme as a momento of my visit.
Certainly I felt JD wasn’t great tonight compared to when I saw him on Monday, but tonight was all about Linzi for me and walking out if the Palladium tonight, I’m one very happy guy who will treasure tonight for years to come.

Were you in row I or J? I went for a drink in town afterwards and then for something to eat. I'm exhausted. But have a warm glow from seeing the show today.

I’m booked on the 4th Aug matinee and I’m gutted it’s not a Linzi show.
So much so I’m debating booking again….
But it’s a long old trip from County Durham and the train is mighty expensive.
Sounds worth it though?

It’s been really nice to read all the positive comments about Linzi’s return. Luckily, the date I booked to see it in August turned out to be one of her performances, so I’m quite looking forward to it.
Just a shame Jason’s performance doesn’t seem to have improved. He was shockingly bad last time.

Have been on and had a look for a Lindsey show but prices are mental. Coming from such a distance I would struggle to be brave enough to rock up without a ticket to get something cheap at the BO.
Hmmmm I shall cogitate.

So glad everyone had a blast watching this. I only know her from listening to the brilliant 1991 cast recording. If she is still a patch on that level vocally, I bet it was a treat.
When I saw it Jason Donovan was pretty terrible, but I loved Sheridan Smith, as something of a fan of hers anyway from other stage shows and Jonathan Creek. Thought she was terrific. I mean, let's be honest it's not exactly Shakespeare - I quite enjoyed the mugging and camp.
Add Linzi's far superior vocals to that performance and it's a winner. Mind you, I quite liked Alexandra Burke in Chicago too!
Rather tempted to rebook and see this despite personal issues I mentioned previously in this thread.

Ok. Wow. WOW! I was expecting her to be good but this was on another level! For those who don’t know, I never got to see the 1991 production and having grown up listening to the soundtrack and then watching Linzi in other things, it’s always been the one thing I wished I’d seen, like if the Doctor had picked me up in his Tardis and asked me where I want to go, I’d have said palladium june 1991.
From the moment the curtain lifted and everyone went mad for her, the atmosphere was electric. She absolutly stole the show. She was in almost every scene, and even when she wasn’t singing she was doing something. Her vocals were amazing. Yes, some keys were lowered, but it’s 30 years later and she still sounded like the recording for the most part. She also did the original key in ‘chained and bound’ and absolutely smashed it! She’s naturally funny, her facial expressions were brilliant! Her dancing was ace aswell, loved her lil tap number! She had such a prescence, it was like she was controlling the whole thing.
It was such a special day! I’ll never forget it! I’m absolutely shattered now but so so so happy! She really is a special talent, and a lovely and gracious woman.

There was 1 thing that niggled me throughout the show, one of the kids playing the brothers was wearing jeans. Maybe there was a problem with his usual costume, but don't send him on in jeans!

Nope, thats his usual costume. Part of the Casual theme for the kids and Narrator. It’s usually the outfit with the green jacket that wears Jeans. Same for 2019 too.

Any thoughts on whether LH might do the tour next year? I wouldn’t expect it. Alexandra usually does a lot of touring shows so thats an option. Im still pretty shocked shes doing matinees and 10 show weeks. She never usually does any matinees in her previous shows. She either missed performing or shes earning a bundle! I also think Carrie Hope Fletcher is an option for the tour. She mentioned in one of her videos she had been working on a project for Joseph earlier this year.

Yesterday afternoon was so special for me too and I’ll never forget it! I really hope Linzi does the tour - I want to take my nephews but don’t really want to see anyone else as the Narrator ever again now!!

Ok, so I MAY (ie i definitely have!) booked another ticket for 4th Sept, Linzi’s last show! Which is also a bit mad as I’m already going again one week earlier on 28th Aug, but I enjoyed it so much I’d happily watch it every day!! Also I have some savings on account of not having been able to go anywhere for 18 months so why not!? Also today remembered the another bit I thought in the show was really cool - when she stood with her back to the audience and arms up and ‘moved’ the sun. So cool! So yeah, summer of Joseph!! It was also nice yesterday to speak briefly to the set and costume designer Morgan who is an old school friend!

It's odd then that when they other boys had their brothers costumes on, he was the only one that didnt have a change of trousers.

24 hours later after seeing Linzi on stage at the Palladium and I’m still thrilled that I was able to see her which having been brought up on the OCR rather than seeing her in person was just a dream come true. Walking out if the Palladium last night back to my hotel it was great to see so many kids got to experience the same thing that many of the adults, maybe some of them parents now did 30 years ago. It was great to share last night with so many people. From noise level in the auditorium in those two shows, I bet you wouldn’t have known it was sold at full capacity. It’s days like yesterday are why we all love going to the theatre. Hopefully there will many more like those to come in the future.
