I think Fuller was involved in the international tour. He was certainly involved in a staging of the original where they had to use the new orchestrations as he voiced disquiet about that in a youtube chat that's probably still up. It was a chat between Fuller and original Magaldi and Mistress Mark Ryan and Siobhan McCarthy and a number of Evas. Really fascinating, though rambling as it's a chat amongst friends/colleagues. I'm afraid the stand out memorable moment was Susannah Fellows remembering how during her entire time within the company as Ensemble and understudy Eva, Elaine Paige never once spoke to her. Can that be true? Brutal to say it in that chat - and brutal if true. She did say, 'a lot of pressure must have been on her', in mitigation, but still... sad to hear. Do all Evas have to go so Method?! Lol Re: Paige, she was/is infamous for protecting her “spot”. She was notorious for this in other jobs too. I’m not sure how much is ego and how much is insecurity, but *she* was the leading lady and wanted to protect that without fear of being replaced. Similar stories from her days in Chess and others.

I assume this is another pandemic casualty now gone forever. The revival (of the Hal Prince original) did amazing business at the Sydney Opera House and in Melbourne 2018 and I've often wondered of it might work here, say at ENO. I know David Ian was keen but the rights weren't available.

I would love to see the international tour of the original Hal Prince production make an appearance over here. I caught it about 15 years ago on a wet night in Hull with a very bad Che and tired Marti Webb. The whole thing looked very tired and dated. It wasn't the best introduction to it but it would be interesting to see if it could work with the right cast
Call it 25 years ago! That tour was in the 90's!!!

At least 25. My colleague and her husband worked that tour as stage management for over a year post uni, and she’s been a qualified solicitor for over 20 years since! They’re still in contact with Marti and most of the cast though…

She posted a picture of herself with the cast and someone replied underneath that they had been sat behind her and she had ruined their night with her behaviour

I must point out, should Ms Paige's lawyers be reading, this is all hearsay.
The Marti Webb tour, if the internet is to be believed, was way back in 1995/96.

Despite liking Paige, and having met her several times, I have heard some not-great stories...particularly re Sunset on Broadway. Evas in general seem to have issues with their alternates. Patti famously hated her alternate, Terri Klausner, and even goes so far as to slam her in her memoir. The extreme case was in Austria, where the alternate hired thugs to assault the principal Eva, who suffered several facial injuries as a result.

Have found myself wondering, if Sunset Boulevard is the critical success one hopes for (or even if it isn't) with such a buzz currently for an ALW/Jamie Lloyd combo, whether the Barbican Evita transfer may finally happen. Or indeed if it might reappear somewhere else in London! I'd love that to happen.
Was one of the things cancelled due to the Coronavirus that I was most annoyed about (partly as I thought OAT Jesus Christ Superstar got even better when they brought it indoors - mainly due to the added impact of sound and light design).

I'm totally with you on this. So sad that EVITA's run at The Barbican was never brought up again after covid. I normally am a purist when it comes to EVITA but that production knocked me for six.

Same! I know I’ve said it a million times lol, but the fact it made me think differently about a show I literally knew backwards, I thought was brilliant direction.
