What has a discussion about misogyny got to do with fireworks ? Another thread may be an idea.

Actually no, because this stemmed from my having a post removed from this thread for no discernible reason (or explanation from moderators) while posts elsewhere (usually of the misogyny and offensive to women variety) are allowed to continue unchecked even when we complain. So I will continue to discuss this. And complain to the moderators until I have an answer as to why political humour is censored yet offensive remarks towards women are tolerated.

I think cars are dangerous and many of the people driving them are not fit to do so even if they have licences. I think mobile phones are very dangerous because people get addicted to them and they get distracted and cause accidents. I think cardboard boxes are dangerous when it rains and they become sodden and slippery. I think fish-bones are dangerous. I think smoking bans are dangerous because smokers are forced to go outside and may catch pneumonia. I think dogs are dangerous because some of them are aggressive and some owners allow them to poo all over the place and this has germs. I think shaking hands is dangerous because it can transmit viruses. I think public transport is dangerous because it encourages some people not to walk and the close proximity can lead to the spread of illnesses. I think superhero films are dangerous because people might think it is possible to do these things for real and then they cannot. I think lightning is dangerous, something should be done about it. I think walking is dangerous because it can lead to people twisting their ankles or being run over by articulated lorries.

Seriously. Some people just want to complain about anything.
Alcohol and all its related problems cause more deaths than anything else, where's the call to ban that??

'Other women ' mods. I’ll let you know when I’ve got my head round that one. My poor phrasing (on the hoof in work) I meant additional women moderators. It’s a Male heavy team and I sincerely think complaints from women get dismissed and drowned out. Sincerely as a woman this is an issue. It is not a slight to you Lynette but I strongly feel moderation would be fairer if there was a gender balance in the moderation team. Actually, I’m identifying as a man today and , see that Dutch guy and his wanting to change his birth date, I’ve decided to stay at 39 for ever. To be serious, Emily, we take your point and welcome constructive contributions to the organising of the Board.

I mean if you're making decisions, why not 21 forever? actually don't being young isn't all it's cracked up to be. And in all seriousness myself, I respect you and some of the moderators greatly, but I am frankly disgusted at the treatment I've received over this issue, and would have left the board had that not meant some petty person 'wins'. I really hope my voice, and others making very serious points about this board, and in particular moderator attitude towards women's complaints is taken seriously in future.

No one has ever thrown a car at me. No one has ever set light to a mobile phone and pushed it through my letterbox. A handshake is harmless unless it turns into a wilful slap or punch. From the reports I read daily in the newspapers (often hidden in tiny columns) of the disproportionate number of men murdering, torturing or raping women I think that many men are indeed dangerous and should be banned.

It's good fun. Most people know how to use them properly. They only sell them one week a year.
They shouldn't be banned. Don't ban stuff because some people misuse them. Just make sure that people that misuse them will be prosecuted or fined.

Most of the homeless on the street have some form of addiction (I reckon).
I have given money to kids with a guy, so that they can buy some fireworks and burn an effigy of a Catholic.

If I was homeless and living in the street I'd probably want heroin as well. Cider can only do so much.

I have given money to kids with a guy, so that they can buy some fireworks and burn an effigy of a Catholic. The curious thing about where I live is that it must be one of the most Catholic places in Britain, but also the most old-school enthusiastic about bonfires and Guys. We counted 30-plus bonfires on the council estate nearby last year, and few of the saplings planted over the decades have made it past November. The council removed the biggest but the kids must have kept sofas and mattresses in reserve because it was back by November 5th.

People nearby were still setting fireworks off last night. I am really starting to lose patience now!

Watching YouTube earlier it occurred to me that if we ban fireworks then there'll be no more videos of idiots looking horrified when they drop a firework into their toilet and then find out why that's a terrible idea. (And many of them do it in the evening, which makes it even more of a terrible idea.)
