I am so excited for this! Benji Butts (who has time to say "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button") was one of my favourite shows from last year. I can't help but think that it might employ Mincemeat's "unique" pricing system as it's a similar sized ATG theatre. Slightly worried by that. A vote for Benji Butts to be the fandom name? So unbelievably excited - got my preview tickets already through sign up.. £20! #benjibutts #makebenjibuttshappen |

Anyone who saw this at Southwark - how much of an issue is the high stage in the Ambassadors likely to be with the set/staging of this show for seats in the front rows?

Anyone who saw this at Southwark - how much of an issue is the high stage in the Ambassadors likely to be with the set/staging of this show for seats in the front rows? Difficult to say really as the Southwark production was a thrust staging compared to this version so might be totally different set and direction. There was quite a bit of trapdoor action in that version though which might be cut off if it's that high. Lots of people crouching down. Equally, there was quite a lot happening up stage but I seem to remember that was raised up at the back. As the cast are the band, they often hang around the back of the stage. |

More a very well crafted, genuine piece with a very talented cast and a atmospheric production. Very folk inspired like telling a story around a campfire with the lively band from a local Cornish pub. Think of a show from the Watermill like Amélie vibe wise. Honestly, it's a show that's hard not to warm to. |

Interesting that Monday to Wednesday performances start at 7pm, and the midweek matinee is on a Tuesday which starts at 1:30pm

The Ambassadors is a tiny theatre so it'll be a tight squeeze getting Benjamin Button in there.

All booked for late October now - I know the stage is high but front row for £20 is a bargain, so alongside the rave reviews from last year’s Southwark run I’m very much looking forward to this.
The music (in the YouTube video I’ve seen) looks a little Come From Away-esque which can only be a good thing.

It’s really in the magic realism genre and a complete knockout. I saw both versions at Southwark and much preferred the first version which used puppets. I thought the association of puppets with children was key to the piece and the ending was excruciatingly sad - I was in floods of tears. Sadly watching Jamie Parker rather than a puppet of Button at the end of the revised version took away most of the pathos. I found myself watching him acting which is surely not the point. I’m sure others prefer the second version but please please please bring back the puppet.
