I think you misunderstand what I'm saying. I'm not attempting to "silence" anybody. I'm just pointing out that the thread is becoming dominated by negativity. Whilst I'm not suggesting that it's a massive love-in, please see my previous wording, hence why I feel there isn't a balance.

That balance will come as more people see it though

Whilst I'm not suggesting that it's a massive love-in, please see my previous wording, hence why I feel there isn't a balance. I felt exactly the opposite, as one or two members were praising it to the heavens and thought that those "negative" comments were a nice balance.

Three weeks of previews? Good grief.

Whilst I'm not suggesting that it's a massive love-in, please see my previous wording, hence why I feel there isn't a balance. Feel free to provide the balance then! I'm not going to be making positive or negative comments about a show I haven't seen, but I can comment on a composer whose previous work I know and don't like, so unsurprisingly my comments about my expectations for this show will be more negative than positive. I expect other people will be in the same position for other shows, so I don't entirely see why commenting either way should be a problem...

Normally I'm all about new musicals, but nothing about this one is attracting me at the moment. Maybe if some great deals show up, or I find myself in London with a slot free, but at the moment I'm not hyped for it. Especially given how much I really did not like Finding Neverland.
That being said, I do look forward to hearing what the critics say about this one (after a VERY long preview period!!), and what other board members think too.

I was chatting with Gary fans outside the theatre the other day and they have convinced themselves that this is the best musical of all time, that they are now musical experts and that they are friends with the cast. Running after them, having selfies, giving gifts and going crazy because one of the writers was there?!
Whether they truly believe this is the best show ever or are just trying to convince themselves of this I'm not so sure. It was all quite bizarre to watch.
I'm sure that without the Barlow connection they'd have little interest. They certainly wouldn't be going back every day. Some had even flown in especially!

Perhaps on a discussion board you would care to provide a more mature response? I don't particularly appreciate your attitude to those responding to and trying to debate a point you raised. You wanted to have a balanced discussion, so contribute to it and respect that others may disagree with you. You can't have it both ways.

Sounds like, with much help from Gary Barlow, the show is successfully promoting itself. What's the problem? Isn't that what every show dreams of doing?

I'm slightly confused by all the hate for the sunflowers front of house. Yes it's overkill but as I wondered past I thought at least they have done something.. so many theatres marquees are dull as f**k and at least here they've put some effort in.
I plan to see it with an open mind. Yes Barlows music is as dull as dishwater but the few songs I've heard from this have been much better than I expected. Plus the cast is pretty fab (though I already can see exactly what performance Dann will be giving- the same as always)
The Gary fans though need to stop being hysterical and get a life.

Also, is this show doing Day seats? According to our very own theatremonkeys site no as the producers are happy to offer clear views from £25 with no additional fees

At the interval now, I'm actually enjoying it. More than I thought I would, at least. It's not perfect, but I think it has heart.
Worryingly quiet though...can't see the other levels but we're in the Dress Circle and it's half full at best, and they're papering. I think this is a show that is going to need good word of mouth to fill the non-coach trip performances!

Im going next week. A generously offered non papering freebie.
