Received some PMs. Thank you, you beautiful people ❤️
I must say, as a hotel worker, I hate Booking.com, it is the enemy! And always try to book direct. But if I'm getting 15€ back, I'm ready to be a hypocrite lol.

Starting to use AirBnB more and more so as hotels prices have risen in recent years, especially as I'm usually a last minute booker. That said I've had good deals with L'Accor hotels (Ibis), 5% discount if you sign up and never had issues like you do with many of the 'independent' hotels across cities. I use a great Airbnb in Wandsworth Common. Self contained basement apartment great bedroom, sitting room and small kitchen where the fridge is filled with fresh juice, milk bottled water and other breakfast items are also included. Less than 5 minutes walk to train station and 12 minutes into Victoria by train. Also walking distance to the tube northern line. £60 per night and an extra bed can be added in the sitting room. My favourite accommodation in London

For oxford. Travellodge is about 10 minute bus ride into the city. If you are on a budget. I wouldnt recommend diving a car into the city in parking charges but transport is frequent.

Anyone stayed at norfolk towers paddington? I normally dont do 4 star hotels but with my growing age I cant slum it these days. I visited a friend there and it's not far from paddington so should be ok for the lion witch and the wardrobe and the endgame in January.

Bumping this thread with an update. When I stayed at the County Hotel at the end of January, another guest told me it was being sold.
I double-checked this by emailing Imperial London Hotels and received the following response:-
"Please note that the County hotel has been sold and from 29/2/20 it will be run by the new owners. The bookings that are in the system will be honoured by the new owners at the rate they were booked at."
As I have a booking with them for August, I was relieved to hear the last part! I have no idea who the new owner will be yet.

I have no idea who the new owner will be yet. So long as it isn't Britannia Hotels, or the Youth Hostel Association, I guess... New website here bit.ly/3cuMi2u

I've taken to staying at the Holiday Inn Express in Croydon - it's about a ten minute walk from East Croydon railway station - but fast Thameslink trains run to London Bridge in about 15 minutes - you can also go into Victoria on Southern Services (I know, I know - same people, different livery!). It's also walking distance from West Croydon for slightly different journey options. The hotel itself is fine - if located down what appears to be a fairly seedy alley/back street. They do a breakfast which has both continental and hot options, and a range of teas and infusions. The rooms themselves are plenty roomy, and you get a selection of pillows - something I'm a bit picky about. Now, I will counter all this by saying that the last time I was there there was a fire alarm at 3am that went on for over an hour as the hotel staff had no clue how to reset it properly, and eventually the London Fire Brigade had to turn up and deal with it - the manager was nowhere to be seen. The building wasn't actually on fire, and it seems like someone was smoking in a room - it's all still unclear. But for a reasonable price, and a room that you can fit three or four people in, there's usually some really good prices to be had.
In response to a different query raised up-thread, the Double Six Cafe on Eversholt Street, down the side of Euston station, does an absolutely superb Full English, with a flexible range of options, and IIRC, caters for veggies.
