Btw, i meant to say, they only had the apple pies available on Wednesday! I was so disappointed! I was going to go for one of the other flavours. Anyway, i still bought one, it was quite nice but not really a pie is it. Some bits of apple in cinnamon with a tiny bit of crumble at the bottom. Still, i like to have the full experience when i see shows and getting a pie at Waitress seemed the thing to do. The jar is nice little keep sake as well. Oh yes I forgot about this. I really wanted a salted caramel, I’d heard so many good things about them but got an apple one anyway to try. I thought it was nasty! What a waste of £6, worst part of the night to be honest 😂

If you buy a mid price ticket, a programme, a pie and an interval drink from the “only doubles served” bar what’s that totting up as I wonder?

It’s a bit of a cheek I think. The bar in the foyer has a sign up at the back saying “we only serve doubles - see price list”. No doubt the staff will point at that when the unsuspecting punter recoils at the price. I made my excuses and left.

How could you miss them?
Two stalls in the crowded lobby. The VIP pie table downstairs outside the toilets (!) and vendors on every level

Loving the new trailer, that American one they’d been using before was absolutely pants!

What a disturbing practice to force upon people who might want a spirit drink.

Thanks for posting! This is a really cute trailer and 100x better than the original Broadway trailer I have to say! 😄❤️

What a disturbing practice to force upon people who might want a spirit drink Many West End theatres have bars that are "doubles only." It's been happening for years - even mentioned in several guide books including the 2002 "The London Theatre Guide" by Richard Andrews. Do remember that a fair amount of West End output is better enjoyed when slightly sloshed... and some producers and theatre owners depend on that fact... They surely have to serve singles if asked though, otherwise it's forcing people to drink something they don't want, which I can't imagine is tolerated given it is alcohol. I don't usually drink doubles, so I'm very tempted to see if I can get a single when I go to see this, and will complain if I can't!

I loathed Mamma Mia! when sober. Two sheets to the wind however, I had an absolute blast!

Many restaurant, hotel and theare bars are doubles only. Hospitality relies on a guarenteed income to survive, and this is just another tool in the arsenal.
Just a musing I had in a chat with another board member; why on earth isn’t Sheridan Smith taking over in this instead of doing Joseph? All of the people defending singing through acting etc over on the Joseph thread; this is a prime example of where her lovely but limited voice could shine. Her SUTBM would be up there with Dame Judi’s ‘Send in the Clowns’. Too pricey for the Weisslers?

Her SUTBM would be up there with Dame Judi’s ‘Send in the Clowns’. A part from the fact that that SUTBM was written as a bravura number while 'Send in the Clowns' was composed specifically for someone who could barely sing, the final result would be very different.

Hi! Just a quick seating question I can get a seat in the dress circle b34 for next week. It looks to be restricted, I just wondered if anyone had sat in there for this production and how the view was? Theatremonkey site has it listed red. Just wanted to check it wasn't crazy restricted.
Many thanks x

There’s a rail on the top of the circle that widens at the end and will be in tournament line of vision, but I didn’t find it bothered me much.

FYI Jack McBrayer is on The Last Leg next Friday if you're a fan....also might this be the night to see Waitress as presumably, he's off (as it's a live show, slim chance they're biking him over post-Waitress as it's on a 10pm)

Is it worth that do you think? Thanks again x

I would appreciate the opinion of a qualified lawyer, but having done a little research this morning, surely The Licensing Act 2003 (Mandatory Licensing Conditions) Order 2010 applies. " 5. The responsible person shall ensure that–
(a)where any of the following alcoholic drinks is sold or supplied for consumption on the premises (other than alcoholic drinks sold or supplied having been made up in advance ready for sale or supply in a securely closed container) it is available to customers in the following measures–
(i)beer or cider: ½ pint;
(ii)gin, rum, vodka or whisky: 25 ml or 35 ml; and
(iii)still wine in a glass: 125 ml; and
(b)customers are made aware of the availability of these measures." My interpretation is that if a theatre is serving spirits from an optic, and a customer only wants a single, they must be served a single.

You have a choice - take it or leave it. No, that's an entirely different situation. They are not required to serve a particular brand, but amounts of alcohol are completely different, as the demonstrated by the legislation quoted above. If they refused to serve me a single then they would be breaking the law. I have to admit though, I have never known a theatre to refuse to serve a single even if their standard measure is a double. Probably because they know they could be in trouble if they didn't.

My interpretation is that if a theatre is serving spirits from an optic, and a customer only wants a single, they must be served a single. That statute isn't entirely clear, but I agree with you. They could try to argue that it means they must serve either 25ml or 35ml but not both, but I think the fact that there are two measures specified whereas only one is given for the other categories of alcohol indicates that they must be willing to serve both measures. I'm not a licensing specialist though.

I don’t know if all of the bars in the Adelphi are doubles bars? Maybe they get round the legislation by directing people to a different part of the premises where they can buy a single?

I don’t know if all of the bars in the Adelphi are doubles bars? Maybe they get round the legislation by directing people to a different part of the premises where they can buy a single? I remember seeing a sign at the ‘doubles bar’ in the main foyer saying which bar to go to for single measures. So no, they’re definitely not all doubles bars and they do direct people as to where to go for a single
