We left at half time tonight. Nothing in it worked - the songs are bland, the book shallow and the characters caricatures. There was no chemistry or comic timing but then the material was so thin. It was like watching an American sitcom which was staggering towards its inevitable cancellation as the writers had lost any spark of originality. And as for “sugar”.....then give me Tori Amos any day. It’s a shame you didn’t enjoy what you saw but you are reviewing half of the show. Whilst there’s every chance you might have hated the 2nd half just as much, there’s also a chance you would have found something in it to enjoy. As a wider point, I don’t really get walkouts- I don’t think I’ve ever seen something so unbearable that I wanted to do that. But that’s just me. It always seems wiser to have a full show to complain about rather than half.

It really is a shame you left at the interval because it truly is a show of 2 halves. Act 2 becomes much more serious and as a result, interesting.

I would happily see it again, especially if Lucie Jones does take over. Another shout here for Peter Hannah’s Earl. He was great at playing a manipulative man child, and I really didn’t know if it was all an act or if Earl was genuinely ‘upset’. Can we just have a moment for how sexy Earl is? I know he’s a douche.. but still.. I would. I can forgive Ogies terrible singing because he’s just so damn funny. He’s supposed to be the weird comedy character so his terrible singing kind of adds to that.

Samantha Barks has posted on her Instagram story a photo of the Waitress billboard, with Lucie Jones, in Times Square. She has tagged Lucie and also Waitress London (as opposed to Broadway), suggesting it will be the London production Lucie is joining. I said the same thing the other day. Great for her to be on Broadway. I’m guessing she will learn it there and then eventually take over from Katherine. I know there's been a lot of chat about the billboards etc in NYC, but my point is I don't think she is doing Broadway.
Samantha Barks only tagging @waitresslondon in the post suggests she is only doing the show in London (otherwise why not tag the Broadway Instagram account?). So while she is being used in the US advertising campaign, I suspect she's not actually doing the show there.
Of course that's just my speculation.

Front row- stage is fairly high but fine, unlimited legroom even if you’re 8 ft tall. My seat number AA27 was the furthest to house left despite what some seating plans show, there are no seats further. Could see everything from the shin up. So the stage height is bearable? More than bearable. It’s probably the same height stage as Dreamgirls had at the Savoy, but row AA is set so far back that you aren’t craning your next so much to see. There would be enough room to fit another row of seats in front with the amount of legroom (but then they’d really be craning their necks!).

Is Jack doing the whole year? Or is he just opening the show along with KMP for the first 3 months as a bit of star casting?

Also if she was doing Broadway she’d probably have to be in rehearsals by now seeing as Stephanie supposedly steps down again in 2 weeks time but from her instagram she’s on holiday in Florida. Also like we’ve said before, I think if she really was about to do her first Broadway show, I doubt she’d have the time or energy to keep flying home for tiny concert dates in random places like Abergavenny!

Well I cried my face off, sadly not into a pie. But the theatre smelled of pie. I caught glimpse of Sara from a distance, and little Karen Cartwright did a great job baking. Count me in the Pie Club*
*not a pregnancy euphemism.
More when I get home!

It seems very odd that she’s in a photo with Joey McIntyre who is only doing Broadway.. and then you think she is doing it here , not there. Then again it would be odd if she got cast in it there as who knows who she is anyway? It’s only survived in NYC because of the casting.

Yes it's odd but I just don't see why Lucie would decide to do some small cabaret dates in small towns in South Wales in the middle of her first ever Broadway contract, but I do see why the producers would just use a random Jenna up on their poster, just like how Jessie's face is up outside the Adelphi and Betsy's all over the US Tour merch. Lucie even said that these dates were "before it all kicks off" so she can't actually be starting her next project until April. Obviously she could be taking over on Broadway from April, but Stephanie's supposed to finish on the 22nd.

Conversely though it might also seem odd for her to have concert dates right slap bang in the middle of rehearsing for the leading role in a big west end show. But clearly she's going to part of Waitress somewhere along the line so at least that would make more sense than her randomly coming back to the UK for concerts when she's just started in a show on Broadway.
It can't be long before we find out either way!

I don't think that this is for London at all. There's not a single reason for them to put Billboards all over Times Square with her photo days before KMP's big UK Jenna debut (although it would've been great as a Karen-Ivy storyline). I think that they most likely wanted to advertise Joey McIntyre's debut and they just used her as a Jenna face -since she was in town and she's probably friends with Sara as the press pics proved- instead of using Stephanie Torns (she's still not a understudy/cover Jenna and not an 'offical' one). If she was taking the role on Broadway after Torns they would 100% take advantage of it and advertise her as the next Jenna. Don't read too much into Samantha Barks' story, I doubt she has any exclusive information & the right to reveal it. She was probably excited to see her friend in a billboard at Times Square and like many others assumed it was for London. Also, since a few people are saying that it's bad marketing, please remember that probably 99.9% of US audiences have zero idea of who she. It makes more sense to use a random face as Jenna since they want to advertise McIntyre's whole run (hence the 'New Kid on the Block etc line under the banners'). It does the job and no one apart from the fans is wondering who she is. It is also something that has happened to the West End as well. I remember watching an Oliver Ormson vlog where he went to a photoshoot for the Rock Of Ages tour (where he wasn't performing), just to cover for an actor who hadn't been cast yet.

Well, despite the booking period extending to October 19th "due to popular demand" - there is huge availability for this. The prices don't help of course with the continuous spread of the premium seats taking huge swathes of the stalls and circle at £100 plus a ticket.

He did make it clear it was only the body though. I’m pretty sure his photos were for Kevin Clifton whose face was photoshopped over, Lucie’s face is all over Times Square at the moment.

I'm not being oblivious, am I... there's no ticket lottery for this, right?

I have to say that it doesn’t come as a massive surprise to read that people are feeling there’s a lack of chemistry. No-one has specified who they felt lacked chemistry, but given that KMP was absent for about half of the rehearsal period, I did wonder what the chemistry would be like between her and the company. Well as with everything I guess it’s always in the eye of the beholder but the overwhelming response from people having seen the show already on social media seems to be that the chemistry is great between the leads. These are also early early preview shows and other than Kat McPhee the cast will still be finding their feet performing the show live, which is actually quite tricky with such a prop heavy show, when in early shows you’re probably concentrating a lot of time trying not to drop stuff so it takes a while for it to all be totally natural! Looking forward to seeing the show next week. I’ve seen it a few times on broadway and each time I’ve loved it. I thought the one thing the cast DID have was chemistry, especially KMP with Dr Pom and with old Joe. I got nothing from Dawn & Ogie. The girls together were great also. Different strokes etc.
