Welllll, I really enjoyed the matinee yesterday - much to my surprise! I think the negative posts on here had my expectations in the gutter so not knowing a thing about the show apart from what I had read on here I found it really entertaining - and really funny. I’m one of those who hates others laughing uncontrollably at things I think are just not funny but I accepted it for what it was - cliched characters, forgettable songs and all. I was disappointed that Kat and David weren’t on but that’s life.

A small reminder for those implying that the show is subpar or somehow unworthy of a place in the West End; not everyone agrees!

A small reminder for those implying that the show is subpar or somehow unworthy of a place in the West End; not everyone agrees! Of course not everyone agrees, that's why they are called opinions. But you can turn that on its head and say that not everyone agrees with the reviews, so I'm not really sure what purpose your post serves other than to be unnecessarily defensive about negative opinions which are just as valid as the positive ones!

One would hope that the critics know what they are talking about with their experience of seeing a massive amount of theatre with varying degrees of quality...the emphasis being on the word “hope”...lol

Just because they get paid to turn their opinions into prose doesn't mean their opinions are more correct than anyone else's - it is the inherent nature of opinions that they simply aren't right or wrong!

Not a fan of critics per se...to mis-quote the great Johnny Mercer- “If I was to eat some alphabet soup,I could s**t better reviews myself ”

Why did David Hunter feel the need to tweet the 5&4 star reviews? I wondered that.

Why did David Hunter feel the need to tweet the 5&4 star reviews? Maybe because he felt proud to be in a show that got so many great reviews? Just a thought being as it was the day or two after press night?! Opinions are like arseholes - everyone has one, but we don't always care to see them. Like it or not, we can discuss our likes and dislikes - our opinions - on here till the cows come home. Some people will like certain things; some will not. We all bring different experiences and backgrounds to the table, but we are not influential. C ritics are actively paid for expressing their opinion; they are meant to be experts in their field in recognising what's good and what's not and writing about that.

I guess actors aren't even allowed to feel proud that their hard work is being recognized, if one theatreboard member doesn't agree with pretty much the majority of critics & audiences that a show is good 😂

Things like that are often done for a reason. This thread is becoming almost as bad as the Wicked one for people being jumped on for having an opinion about the show that isn't all sunshine and rainbows, and frankly that's getting really irritating!

This thread seems to me equally positive and negative (but honestly as someone pretty neutral on the show a lot of the negative opinions seem unnecessarily inflammatory). Also was it that reasonable of a question? Because to me it would seem pretty obvious that an actor tweeted out their good reviews because they were proud to be part of a show that well recieved. There's literally no other reason I could think of so by asking it came across to me at the very least like they were suggesting some kind of insecurity about the show that they needed reviews to assuage? I'm probably reading far too into it but that's the thing when you only communicate in text; you have to make your intentions abundantly clear or else people misinterpret things (and I think being on the internet people misinterpret things to be more negative than positive as generally the internet is a negative place so they're on their guard more often that not).

I don’t have any issue if there’s people who don’t like the show, because everyone has their own opinion, and sure a show like Waitress isn’t going to be for everyone. But the reason I think people get frustrated or are getting frustrated in this thread is because it’s gotten to the point that anything Waitress does now, someone seems to jump on it to infer something negative, and it really can’t win whatever it does now. It’s so frustrating, especially for people who do enjoy the show and just want to discuss that.
Maybe people can at least be positive this week and enjoy the last week we have with Kat, Jack and Laura, because I’m sure people will have a lot to say once Ashley starts! 😜
Kat tweeted this vid of her last year rehearsing SUTBM for the first time 😍 ....

This is why I don't use social media which in most cases is anything but "social". Regarding this show, I have said nothing negative other than I didn't enjoy it and felt I wasn't the target market. I have enjoyed posting my thoughts on here (both positive and negative) after nearly 60 years of theatre going and seeing 1000's of shows over the years, but I will be posting on here less from now on I'm afraid.

This isn’t a Waitress Appreciation thread. Those of us who didn’t rate it are perfectly entitled to say so. And that’s whether it’s the week that people are leaving the show or otherwise.

I think people take things far too seriously. We have this "We cannot offend anyone, we have to tip toe around everyone culture". This in some ways causes issues like what happened to those two ladies in the Rotterdam cast or the school protests in Birmingham.
Fair enough you don't knock somebody for their appearance but saying someone looks skinny or has got bigger recently isn't offensive, if that person is happy with their size then that's up to them

I'm thinking of giving this a go. Has anyone been in the dress boxes? Are they any good? Think you'd only miss the extreme sides. I'd go for the boxes on the right as you look at the stage, this way you'll see the 'kitchen' part of the set and just miss where the band come on and off sometimes. If you sit in the boxes on the left whilst looking at the stage you'll get a clear view of the band, but nothing else happens here. As opposed to a few bits and bobs taking place in the kitchen. Thank you, and theatremonkey, I posted this and then was taken ill and forgot all about it and tickets, only today when I thought about them again did I remember! So sorry if I appeared rude. So, would that be boxes C and D?

Why did David Hunter feel the need to tweet the 5&4 star reviews? I wondered that. Nobody should feel unwelcome on the thread and wickedgrin, I hope you'll feel the love and keep posting. I didn't see any issue with tweeting the reviews. We've had others criticizing the marketing department for not properly promoting the show so surely it's pure self promotion and a little pride (not in any pejorative sense)? I think an actor should be allowed that. Also if it was felt the show was under-performing at the box office wise at the time, presumably it was a nice boost for the cast to get those reviews?

I'd imagine that Saturday night's performance will be an emotional one with KMP and Laura ( temporarily) leaving and self appointed cast leader David Hunter making his speech.
It will be interesting to see what the ticket sales do post KMP and in the Lucie and Ashley era.
