I saw this yesterday for the second time and I was sat further back than I did the first time and I thought Kat’s Jenna was too toned down for even the back half of the dress circle! Her singing is amazing but I’m looking forward to seeing Lucie! Did anyone see her? If so what was her Jenna like?

Katharine has recorded She Used To Be Mine in the studio and it was premiered on the Elaine Paige show today. I still don’t get the same emotional depth from her as Jessie Mueller had but she sounds amazing!

Kat said on twitter that it’ll be available digitally next week.

Ahhh thanks so much for posting! 😆 I heard Elaine Paige premiere it on her show today which was so cool to hear, I wasn’t expecting it! I love this recording and Kat sounds great 😍, and it’s pretty true to how she sings it live in the show, so it’s a nice thing to remember her London run by! I still wish they coulda recorded a full Waitress London cast album 😭 <—— being greedy I know, but I think Kat, Marisha, Laura and David are such strong vocalists, that they’d sound fab on an album!

^Agree that there should have been a London cast recording-it has to be too late now surely,at least with this cast?

Btw, does anyone know who is more technically minded then me know whether Kat and Jessie sing SUTBM in the same key in their respective recordings? To me it sounds like Jessie is in a slightly higher key but then maybe it’s just the way that Jessie sings the song and some notes that makes it seem higher.
Sara definitely sings it lower than the both of them.

It's quite rare for a Broadway transfer to get a London cast recording due to recording costs, and paying royalties to those on the OBCR's, so I wouldn't be surprised if it just doesn't happen.

Before it went to Broadway, and I think while it was in previews, it was in a higher key so the recording was as well but the key was lowered while Jessie was still playing Jenna because I think it was damaging her voice or was at least too fatiguing so that's why it's lowered now.

Ahhh interesting! That makes sense - I saw Jessie early in her Waitress run on Broadway but can’t remember how she sang it then, seems so long ago now! I know it was good 😆

Well if they’re gonna do one I think it needs to be with the original London cast, so yeah, I don’t feel it’s going to happen 🙁 Jack McBrayer will be relieved at least 😆 Feels like this Kat SUTBM recording is a way to throw us London Waitress fans who are hoping for an album a bone!

She used to be mine is a beautiful song. It featured in BGT final tonight although most would not have known where it was from. I love Louise Dearman's version.

Louise sounds fantastic 😍❤️ although I really don’t like the arrangement of this version - sounds like a dated 80’s power ballad arrangement of the song 😆

Sara definitely sings it lower than the both of them. So as it's already been said, Jessie was singing it in G when the show was in Boston and for the first few Broadway previews until they lowered it a semitone to G flat, which is the OBC version. I'm not sure that the only reason they changed was because it would be damaging for her voice, as I believe that it sounds much better and more dramatic in G flat. You can listen to the higher key version here and you can also search on Youtube for Jessie's SUTBM vocal evolution. Sara sings it in F in both the album and the show version, which is a semitone lower than that. (I believe that the only time where she sang it in Jessie's key was at the Tonys when they were singing together). Kat sings it in G flat as well. I don't know about the other Jennas, but I think Betsy Wolfe had to lower it down to F in the middle of her run, perhaps it was too damaging for her voice.

I didn’t see Betsy during her run, but if you search on YouTube for Betty’s SUTBM there’s a recording of her last show and yeah it’s def lower key, and a lot of the comments are mentioning it, saying they preferred her singing it higher. The F key obviously suits Sara’s voice perfectly but it’s not a natural fit for most other of the Jennas I don’t think. In the Kat and Sara duet they sing that in F I think.

Lovely to have Kat’s version - thanks for sharing! She really does sing it wonderfully even if I think it would be hard to ever top Jessie’s version.

Just been watching the guy on Britain’s Got Talent singing She Used To Be Mine. He sounds really great, maybe a bit riffy at the end but to be fair he only had 2 minutes to showcase his voice. Some idiots on twitter are saying that men shouldn’t be “allowed” to sing the song which is really getting to me! Of course we can all get something different from a song but to me it’s about a woman who feels that she’s broken and a shadow of her true self because of suffering domestic abuse for so long. Last time I checked domestic abuse can just as easily happen to a man so I don’t see the problem with a man performing the song 🙄

Well a chunk of the song is about having an unwanted pregnancy but I suppose for BGT that was cut since it would need to be cut down anyway.
