Waitress - Adelphi Theatre / U.K. Tour / Cinema

Posted this on instagram a few hours ago along with some of my favourite curtain call photos from the show, thought I’d share it here too. Say what you like about the questionable casting, marketing, etc. but this show has meant a lot to many young theatre fans (and theatre fans in general of course).

Wow so I’m not even sure where to begin here. Nearly 2 years ago I went through a bit of a rough patch and during that I discovered the cast recording of a Broadway show called Waitress. The melodies and the harmonies were so catchy, so beautifully simple and calming and I loved listening regularly. Fast forward to the summer and we had a London transfer announced. I was so excited to finally get to see it live and it was even better than I could ever have imagined and the most perfect 18th birthday present. After that I saw the show another 6 times and each time was a precious 2 and a bit hours of my life. My clinical depression can make me have really really low spells where I don’t see a way out or even a reason to want to carry on but Waitress was genuinely that “soft place to land”, full of beautiful music and heaps of hilarious moments. Knowing my pie show was always there when I needed it was a huge comfort to me. Seeing the story of Jenna, a woman whose life is at a really low point, finding a person who cares for her so deeply, developing the confidence to get herself out of her terrible situation and finally reaching true happiness was an inspiration to me every time, speaking as someone who often wonders if he ever will be able to overcome his mental health issues and be able to call himself truly “happy”. A line that got me every time was “in time maybe, I can heal and I can breathe, as I can feel myself believe that everything changes” - change happens slowly but things DO change and things DO get better and I do feel that even with many bumps in the road, I have made lots of progress since my anxiety+depression diagnosis almost a year ago. Waitress leaves a huge hole in the West End and a huge hole in my heart. Thank you to every single incredible cast member and every individual who brought this show to life night after night. I only hope that everyone can find something that makes them as happy as Waitress has made me over the past year. Sugar, butter, goodbye pie ❤️🥧💙

Pretty sure it’s down to finances and practicality, brought about by the pandemic which has killed nearly 800 people in the UK so far and shows no sign of abating.

I’m struggling to think what other motivation producers would have for putting on a show. It’s not a charity. 

And David and Lucie are jobbing actors. Sometimes in work, sometimes not. I imagine they’re thankful for the time they were in it and looking forward to future projects. 

I hope so! I was looking forward to catching this again before July and wasn't bothered about the tour. I shall book for the tour, might even incorporate it into a trip to Liverpool to see hannechalk if she behaves herself 😁

Jacqueline Jossa actually wouldn’t be a terrible choice for Jenna if they need to stunt cast. I’ve heard some clips of her singing and she’s got a good voice, and she’s well known with the public from being in both EastEnders and Jungle.

Basically disagreeing with you about everything you said about the show ... personally found it quite shockingly terrible on any level and remember being shocked how the audience seemed to just lap it up without questioning a thing...after reading your post I can forgive the show nearly everything. If that's your experience then good for you.

Marisha singing SUTBM is like nails on a chalk board to me. I'm sure she is a lovely person but I think she is overrated big time.

It can't hurt to get in touch with them, either by DM on Twitter, or by email. I imagine they're working through performances by chronological order, so it may be a while until you hear from them in that case, but if you need a refund sooner then contact them. Obviously they have a lot of theatres/shows to deal with so be kind and patient with them, as I'm sure you would be, and it'll be sorted. In terms of the actual refund, it tends to take a few working days for the money to go back into your account once they've processed the refund on their end. Hope that helps!

If this is helpful to anyone, I had tickets booked for 9th June; and I was contacted via email on 5th May; that I would be refunded in the two following weeks. Unlike ATG, LW theatres has been extremely helpful when refunding tickets. I don’t know if I’ll be refunded the booking fee.
