Walked past today. I see a Neon box office sign and they were doing some work on the facade. If not yet ready to open then they must be close to announcing something. My guess is sometime in the Autumn when it open. Will be interesting what the first show will be, I’m thinking The Unfriend. I’m more interested what the theatre will be called. |

I saw so many fantastic gigs at the Astoria (having the choice to get down and dirty downstairs or sit on a lit table upstairs). Some great NME tour nights with four up & coming bands on the bill (back when Pulp, Elastica, Gene & Supergrass were up and coming) all at the height of Britpop. Or the fantastic Dr John noodling away on his piano while his foxy ladies let rip with some banging bv’s. But mostly Suede’s last gig before they split in 2007. But it’s ok because they had to knock it down to make way for a high speed train line they can’t even afford to finish… #BORISOUT Not the politics thread. 113 words and you focus on that? Worrying. |

Just noticed that Nimax are looking to hire a Master Carpenter for the new theatre, the closing date is 20th July which suggests perhaps the theatre will be opening in the Autumn.

I mentioned this in The Unfriend thread but I walked past the building that will house the new theatre and noticed that the license for the hoardings surrounding it only goes up to until November 9th, now I wouldn't take this as confirmation because licenses can be extended but it does suggest the theatre or at least the building will be opening sometime in mid to late November.

I don't mind Soho Place but the @ has to go! Has to say the theatre looks very nice, any bets what will go there? I saw on Matthew Hemley's twitter that the bar will be named after Nica herself which is fair enough. BurlyBeaR should we change the title of the thread now we have a name or keep it as it is. |

Interesting to read that it's going to be a not for profit venue rather than a commercial venue which is unusual for Nica Burns.

Embarrassingly they haven't even acquired the @sohoplace handles on social media, so spelling out the name of the theatre automatically links to some random user.
This is the 'Other Palace' for our times.
