I wonder is there is a rewrite of Son of a Preacher Man possible about her or a duet of Breakfast in Bed with the B and B couple who wouldn't let the gay couple stay at their establishment. Ironic that Dusty was one of the very first major female performers to come out as gay. Oh hell no. Unless by ‘rewrite’ you mean burn everything to do with that shambles of a show and start again. I was just thinking of the actual song not the Dusty Musical of the same name.

In an awful sequel to this there’s another cast member of the show who’s insanely homophobic but is smart enough to keep their mouth shut after this drama that’s just taken place. The cast member, who I won’t name, is apparently well known for having outdated views and colleagues of there’s try to avoid them as much as possible.

Unfortunately the church and homophobia go hand in hand, wish there were more Christians like James O’Brien who is a devout Catholic and is completely not homophobic. Always surprise me the amount of people who identify with going to church and I also racist, you know the pearl clutching middle class racist bit like Theresa May, or the devout Catholic Jacob Rees Mogg who also thinks that food banks are funny!!! I'm much shorter than JRM but if I ever meet him I would like to jump up and chomp him on the face, like a rabid terrier. He's a hateful cheesestring of a man.

If she is c/o Spotlight does that mean she is effectively representing herself and is contacted for parts via Spotlight?

I do actually think it will be interesting for see who does employ her going forward now that her views have been so publicly revealed. It will say as much about the employer as it will her.

My comedy thought for her was she could do a one woman show about that MP who was recently sent to prison for perverting the course of justice and will likely lose her seat if a certain amount of her constituents sign the recall petition.
It's interesting that Seyi followed a stage career, you'd probably think it was something her family may not have wanted her to do.
Her views were "known" to a certain extent beforehand but maybe only after she was cast in Little Shop but the hypocrisy of taking on the Color Purple role has brought these to the fore. She can hold these views but would act out something she has claimed in morally wrong for financial gain is IMO worse than not going for the role due to the nature of it, almost like some performers won't do nudity etc.

The MP in question claimed that she was in good biblical company in being found guilty. I'm not an expert on the bible, but I'm pretty sure there isn't a bit in there where Jesus blames everything on his Russian lodger.

This might be of interest to some on here. Curve are releasing £10 tickets on selected dates for those under 26. Also for those on low incomes/on benefits and first time visitors to curve. I'm sure this will be helpful for some members and readers of this forum. More info here CLICK MEBookings for these tickets must be made via phoning the box office (or in person but i's sure phoning is the best option for many of you). The phone number is in the article linked.

Is there any news on the casting of Celie? Or are the background checks still waiting to clear so they get it right this time?

I’ve been wondering about this but I couldn’t find the thread. I feel like there’s a really good chance for them to get some good PR out of this casting, I really hope they find an amazing queer black actress. What’s Genesis Lynea up to at the moment?

She's in Casualty on BBC One but she couldn't sing that role anyway imo. Also i don't really agree with purposely doing what you have suggested.

Casting Genesis, getting PR out of the casting, or casting a queer WOC? I can’t believe Casualty is still on! Is Charlie still in it?

Well, it's fine if they case someone to play Celie who is LGBT naturally but the problem is if they went out specifically to do that. I don't think that is right at all. The casting of parts should always be based on talent and who is best on the day, that's why Seyi was cast, and fair enough that blew up, but i think that should still be the general rule. Plus in this case because there has been such a public issue, purpose casting an LGBT actress would seem like over compensating and making a false gesture.

Or perhaps merely making a pointed gesture more so than a "false" one?

I’d like to think they went above and beyond to find a queer actress of colour, but if they don’t cast it like that then I will be ok with it. Ultimately they've set themselves the lowest possible bar...don’t cast another very talented, hater-filled person who thinks I’m an abomination.
