It'll be an interesting one to follow. Response on Twitter seems quite tepid currently.

It is of course possible that she has now changed her views. I don't know how old she is but she seems young and this was 5 years ago. You have to say if she did have those same views now she's struggle in the industry given the large amount of LGBTQ people theatre has within it. Recently she appeared in a show with a drag queen in it, and they seem to get on well judging by their tweets to each other and Vicky Vox congratulating her on getting the role. I do think she is going to need to come out and explain herself though and make it clear she no longer holds these views, otherwise it's very troubling, especially given she will be playing a LGBTQ character.
I don't think the theatre/team are at any fault here, you can't expect them to trawl through years of facebook posts to check if they have ever said anything bad and i think anyone would assume that if you are in this very inclusive industry and auditioning for a LGBTQ role that you don't have any negative issues with that group of people.

I'm quite disgusted by that and the fact she has accepted a role that she is apparently against given she doesn't think homosexuality is right. I don't think she should be allowed to do the role, regardless if she drops out or not.

I think she should be given the chance to explain herself, to apologise for that awful post and to assure us that her views have changed if they truly have, and it needs to be convincing. I think it would be sad to take a role away from a person for something they said 5 years ago, and at a young age, if they are sincerely apologetic and have changed their ways. But I agree we, the LGBT+ community, deserve both an apology and an explanation!

I tend to think all involved could try to ignore it and just plough on as if nothings happening but i'm really hoping that it is dealt with.

I'm all for explaining yourself. Interesting though if you look at her twitter, she's taken the time to actively reply to other tweets sent to her or stuff she's commented on, but not on this. Which could be considered by most, an importsnt thing to address.

Yeah I've just read the comment from FabiDabi Dolls and if it's true, I am done with her.
"...her past views and support of her father who fiercely supports gay conversion therapy..."

This is a time where I’d like Cynthia Erivo to go OFF

I presume that she would have had to audition for this role? How would she be able to empathise with the character if she still holds the same views as five years previously and why would she even want to play this role if she knew that the character was diametrically opposed to her own personal views. She needs to make her current views on the matter very clear asap.

Do we know this for sure though? At the moment that is someone just saying that, we've not seen any evidence. So we need to be careful with that one. Actually her dad seems to have just got an MBE?!

Celie will need to be recast, no doubt about it. Someone let Sierra Boggess know.

Curve have just tweeted
The views expressed in the historic social media post by a member of Curve and @brumhippodrome’s The Color Purple cast in no way reflect those held by either of our theatres. We will be looking into the matter and will issue a full response in due course.
Sorry I couldn't work out how to post a screenshot

The last tweet from the Hippodrome (pre this issue being raised) just happened to be:
"We love having a show like @kinkybootsuk in our theatre that spreads the importance of love and acceptance."

Shenton will secretly love this because he for some reason hates Curve and uses any excuse to criticise it. He's already in those tweets put blame on them for casting her, when i don't see how they would have even known about it.

It should get attention, this kind of casting shouldn't happen and she should be called out for it.

The website of the organisation he co founded is an interesting read "The family is the most foundational building block for society. The loving union of one man and one woman is the normal God-given context for children to be born and raised. This pattern for married life has been under attack for all of human history. Divorce, homosexuality and transsexualism are three of the most significant challenges to God’s pattern for family in today’s society." www.christianconcern.com/our-issues/church-and-state/modest-but-excellent-christian-concern-co-founder-ade-omooba-awarded-mbe

See. f***ed up. Get her out, if they go any other way, it's just wrong and this production shouldn't be supported.
