As @theatremonkey has yet to extend his invaluable reach to the rest of the UK, I'm hoping someone here could help, please.
I'm planning a weekend away to see a few productions, possibly including one by Opera North - always frustratingly out of reach so far - at Leeds Grand. However, there don't seem to be any concessions for seniors and even the cheapest (restricted view) ticket, plus booking fee, would cost about £30, never mind travel on top. Has anyone tried the extreme sides of the dress circle or upper circle, please, and if so, how restricted is the view?

Leeds Grand was my local theatre before I moved it London so been many many times. The balcony seats row aa-cc have quite a decent view and the upper circle is ok from most places I’ve sat. Whenever I’ve sat in the dress circle I’ve had viewing issues due to the pillars so would probably pick upper or those balcony ones over that area.

Leeds Grand has some of the creakiest seats that I’ve ever heard in a theatre!

I've sat in BB43, which is side balcony, D3 and E20 in the dress circle. Personally I would go for the extreme sides of the dress, at the extreme sides there are no pillars and the view is really goodfpr the price. The balcony was horribly uncomfortable (I actually knelt infront of my seat for most of the performance) and unless you're comfortable with extreme leaning the view isn't that great. (All of these were for Wicked as well)
Also yes the seats are extremely creaky on all levels.

Thank you all for the advice/comments; interesting that some would recommend balcony over dress as my instinct is always to go for the lower of the two at any venue due to feeling too distant higher up. I will study what's available in line with your views, though not sure what I can do about creaky seats other than be forewarned and try not to fidget!
