Bit trepidatious about this, as I just don't like the thought of Alexandra singing these songs. I'm sure she'll hit all the notes, but I just don't think her voice will suit them. I will have to see it once and hope to be proven wrong.
Looking forward to see who else is cast.

I've just caved in and booked for this! I'm dubious about Alexandra, from reports, but I do love the music, and it has been four years since it was last here (officially).

Note that the casting hasn't been done for this beyond Alex as the casting director tweeted today that watching the film on e4 was giving him inspiration.
Who has some ideas on casting?
How about Leanne Jones as Mary Patrick?

Not a massive fan but she would be OK.

Just noticed on my booklet from the Wycombe Swan that they're using the London/Original Broadway font for this tour. This makes me happy!!

Unfortunately I didn't see this when I had the chance to see Cynthia Erivo as Deloris... but Alexandra Burke doesn't inspire me to want to see this, I'd much rather see someone older in the role- Sharon D Clark for example - I've never heard any of the songs so I wouldn't even know the voice this would suit.

Cynthia was a brilliant Deloris. I doubt she'll be bettered (in English).
It's a shame Rachel John never went on in London.
Landi Oshinowo was very good too.
I agree, a slightly older Deloris would work well.

Oh right. I'm just glad they didn't go for the later Broadway font.

Like the Legally Blonde 'news' that was actually just that it was happening then her playing a London recording song and not even a curve cast one?
Mind you if this is from SA directly maybe it is something.

She did sound, as the song title suggests, fabulous, and it was really enjoyable to listen to her - it's just a shame that the key for the song is so low to fit her vocal range. I found some of the punch of the orchestration (the brass section in particular) and the excitement of the song itself was lost quite a bit compared to hearing Patina Miller absolutely belt it out for all the world to hear along with the loud, bursting orchestrations which make me revisit the OLC time after time. It's certainly one of my favourite musical scores.
I'm sure in performance mode everything steps up another few gears (I do hope she's learnt how to act on tour, she was simply atrocious in London no matter how brilliant she sang) and I'm sure she will pull it out of the bag and has obviously been cast for a reason - I'm just sure there are beltresses out there who could do it in those wonderful original keys!

Yes she sound amazing! Very uplifting and fun song, should be a great show! Are you referring to The Bodyguard? I thought she was absolutely amazing acting and singing. For a stage debut, her acting was really good.

For a stage debut, her acting was really good. I was indeed referring to The Bodyguard! This is purely personally, but I found her acting to be embarrassingly wooden, almost laughably so, and the group I was with all thought the same. Some of the worst I've seen on a stage! However, if you thought she was great in The Bodyguard, the good news is that she can only have got even better since then! Stage debut is a funny thing. If I'm seeing the stage debut of someone, I expect they've spent at least the last 3 years training in their craft. However, I guess the stage debut of a celebrity is a different entity. I didn't see Beverley Knight in Bodyguard (where people weren't too complimentary about her acting) but I did see her in Memphis where I immensely enjoyed all aspects her performance. And though I didn't see Matt Cardle either, apparently he came and smashed all expectations! So in terms of a stage debut, Alexandra ranks quite low for me, but it's been a while since I last saw her and she's currently employed so fingers crossed!

I;d not really heard the song before this and it even sounded far too low for me. I know she has a quite a deep voice, which you could tell in The Bodyguard, but why is it such a deep key here? It seems too low.

She has big shoes to fill. I last saw this with Cynthia Erivo as Deloris. She was a sensation.
