Oh i hope that Memphis is a possibility. Also i thought it came out on here a couple of months again that The Addams Family was touring again? What's happened to that? did confirm rumours of a rumoured 2018/19 re-run by Music & Lyrics, back in April. Maybe he could check the pencils? |

Yep, Annie is, it’s odd as I don’t remember a specific announcement but it’s being advertised all over the Birmingham Hippodrome

I appreciate I'm positively ancient, but it wasn't that long ago that the programme of a typical receiving theatre looked something like: panto, play, play, play, play, play, musical, play, play, play, play, ballet, play, play, play, play, Joseph, play, play, play, play, Buddy, play...
Now, it's more likely to look something like: panto, musical, musical, musical, musical, play, musical, musical, musical, play, ballet, musical, musical, musical, musical, play, Joseph, musical, musical...
Perhaps we aren't there yet, and ultimately the market will decide, but there must surely be a limit to how many musicals can be touring at the same time?

surely it depends on what theatre you're talking about. In The past 20 to 30 years the larger number 1 venue near me wouldn't have had so many plays. it always had a decent share of musicals

Apparently Hairspray will be back on the road 2020/2021. until they bring back the original production I've zero interest. I love the show but the new scaled back version is cheap and tacky. it's not like the original was all that complex that it couldn't tour |

Can't we have tours of things that haven't been done in a while? Selfishly I've seen everything mentioned in this thread so far and my life mission to tick off the world's more obscure musicals isn't going to satisfy itself! 😉

Hairspray seems to be more scaled down with every tour that is produced. If they cut it back even more for the 2020 tour, it might as well be a black box drama set in Baltimore with catchy songs.
It seriously bothers me that they use a fatsuit for the actress playing Tracy as of late. Surely there are actually plus-size actresses within the UK that are capable of playing this role?

I'd say that if Hamilton is touring, it would have to do big sit downs in places like Manchester and Edinburgh - the UK's main receiving houses such as the Manchester Palace, Edinburgh Festival and Southampton Mayflower. I'd imagine they would want to extend into mainland Europe e.g. Paris, Madrid, Zurich, Berlin.

I'd say it's too early for Hamilton to tour, I'm also not sure how big it would be on the road for sit down productions. I work in a pretty big office with diverse ages etc and when I went to see it only one person had heard of it.Compared to something like Wicked which everyone seems to have heard of. It just doesn't feel like Hamilton has reached the wider general public conscience yet.

Places like Manx, Cardiff and Edin are definitely shoo-ins for Hamilton. I don't think they'd do as many venues close together as Wicked (e.g. Liverpool, Manchester AND Birmingham) because they might not want to transport the revolves between too many different venues in case of damage (would they even use revolves for the tour? I'm just rambling.) |

The two US tours of Hamilton have 2 revolves each, while the show is performing at one venue, the revolve is being set up at the next. Also it works in that you are pretty much putting a stage on top of the stage. I don't believe you could have Hamilton without a revolve, honestly it's pretty integral to the direction and flow of the show.
So maybe if we ever get a UK Tour of Hamilton, it will be after one of these US tours has ended for the set to be reused.

Matilda (2nd tour for shows 10th anniversary) I personally think the show should return to Stratford-Upon-Avon for the Christmas 2020 season to mark both the 10th anniversary of Matilda and the re-opening of the RSC (I know Matilda was in the Courtyard, but still.) |
