So since I didn't want to see Company at the Thursday matinee (going to be a great seat, wanted to spend it on my final performance of the trip), I was able to switch Hadestown for the matinee! I'm also seeing Jamie Thursday night since the seat I wanted was available that night. Monday night: Dreamgirls? still undecided Tuesday night: Hamilton Wednesday: Cursed Child Thursday matinee: Hadestown Thursday night: Jamie Friday: Caroline, or Change Saturday matinee: Christmas Carol? Or maybe more time to explore Saturday night: Company

It looks like an epic trip and six day theatre binge - you’re going to have an amazing time! Please post back once you’ve ticked each one off. You definitely won’t be disappointed if you do pick 42nd Street too, the production is fantastic!

I have considered 42nd Street, but a very high quality regional theatre is doing it near me, not making it as high a priority for me, but I do love older shows (Seen Hello, Dolly three times on Broadway and I wish it could be more). I'll for sure keep it in mind! Part of me wants to see Wicked because I've been following the London production for over ten years now and love the option to try for front row day seats, but I have seen it quite a few times and it isn't going anywhere anytime soon, so I'm trying my best to resist.

Dreamgirls is quite an emotional experience and will get you in the mood for a week of theatre! Production standards on that show are very high too. It's a great, feel good show and I echo the sentiment that it would set the tone for the week very well.

That's impressive that you already have so many shows booked!👍 Even though 42nd Street is visually spectacular I prefer Dreamgirls because in my opinion it has more heart. Dreamgirls exceeded my expectations and I would like to see it again before it closes.
Some general advice regarding mobile data if you or anyone else needs it when traveling to the UK, I can recommend EE. I had not heard of them before my trip last year and they have a bunch of shops in the centre of London. I bought a prepaid card from there for only £10 which had 1 GB, plus calls and texts valid for a month. The coverage was great and the store even checked my phone one day when it was having charging problems. If arriving from Gatwick and getting in at Victoria Station the Oyster card and EE sim card can both be purchased there, which are very convenient to have from the start of a trip.

If he's got Caroline Or Change and Hadestown on the list and Christmas Carol on the possibles, then Young Frankenstein will be LONG closed by the time he gets here.

On further reflection, I think an even easier test is whether you read this board primarily for theatre stuff - or the rest of it. If it is the latter, panto is for you... This is the most accurate summary of Panto I've ever read. Do you like filth and childish humour? can you lower a tone just by a look. My dears you won't just like Panto you should be IN panto. In all seriousness, I loathe slapstick and farce with a fury of a 1000 suns. If anyone tries to make me participate in theatre I am not performing in I will slap them with my slapstick (matron etc etc). But I still enjoy a good panto.

So I have added Christmas Carol at the Old Vic to my schedule! It was a cheap slightly restricted view seat for only 21 pounds and for the Saturday matinee when I'm there. If I decide I want to use the time to explore instead or see something else (unlikely as this seems very good), then it's not that much money to lose. The show is at 2:30 though so it only prohibits me from about an hour of exploring in the light.

I’m very impatient and worrisome (almost always need an aisle seat) so bought a 23 pound ticket to Dreamgirls on the aisle of Row E of the Upper Circle. Maybe a better deal will come up, but I feel fine with this purchase.

And my Company ticket is bought now too! I’m a little crazy and have fully booked my trip, but London is spoiling with me so many cheap tickets! Not used to that when visiting New York. The next ticket I buy will be for the Harry Potter Studio Tour!

bought a 23 pound ticket to Dreamgirls on the aisle of Row E of the Upper Circle. The view isn't bad, the legroom is tight, but it's an aisle, so you could do worse. Yes, figured being on the aisle would help. Glad to hear the view is fine.

Can't seem to find a thread about The Great Gatsby. Any thoughts on the production? I could fit it in on the Sunday I get in, but that might be pushing it.

You could have a real London trip by going fishing. But bad puns aside :-) The list is pretty good. What else are you seeing! I think those shows are a good catch

Westminster Abbey Tower of London British Museum - absolutely wonderful. I thought Windsor Castle to be worth it too. You could do Paris for a day and see the Louvre and Eiffel Tower which for my money is the best city in the world

One of the guides worked with the God Mark Rylance pps. I found Fat Duck in Bray really good.

You could do Paris for a day and see the Louvre and Eiffel Tower which for my money is the best city in the world Going to Paris for a day is completely pointless, you need much longer than that to properly appreciate any city or even it's major attractions. There's plenty to do in London, leave Paris for a separate trip.

Oh I think Paris for a day is wonderful. It feels so decadent. Of course you won't see everything but use the day to walk around and eat and drink and while away the hours. You can always go back another time for longer to do museums and attractions etc.

I’m baffled why a day trip to Paris as an extension to a short break in London makes any sense. I’m more baffled why anyone would consider doing this unless they had exhausted everything of interest in London. I’ve been going for decades and I still find new and interesting stuf, whereas I’ve been to Paris several times over the years and I wouldn’t hurry back.

Me being the crazy theater goer I am, I'm looking at Matilda for the 3:00 pm matinee on the Sunday I get in. I am supposed to land at 12:30 and am taking the Heathrow Express into Paddington. Am I crazy to even think I could make the 3:00 performance?

Would you buy a last-minute ticket at the box office or book ahead? If the former, you could try for it. If the latter - I personally wouldn't risk it. If your flight is an hour late, if the queues at immigration are long, if you just miss the Heathrow Express and have to wait for the next one... all of that would make you late. Don't forget you also need to factor in getting from Paddington to the theatre.
And even if you'd rush into the theatre at 2.55, would you really be able to immediately chill and enjoy the show after a long journey and rush into town? Unless you absolutely want/need to see Matilda and can't accommodate it otherwise, I'd either give it a miss or just try to buy a ticket last-minute when I know I've made it to the theatre in good time and feel awake enough/up for a fairly lengthy musical after the long journey.

That is sort of where I was at. There’s a seat for 25 pounds that I was looking at since it wouldn’t be much to lose if couldn’t make it, but yes I think best way to go will be just wait and see once I get there.

Am I crazy to even think I could make the 3:00 performance? I’d take the Piccadilly line to Covent Garden. It’s an hour travel either route and the Piccadilly has no changes. That leaves you an hour and a half to clear passport control and pick-up any bags. You’ll then have the challenge of stashing any large bags somewhere. Or you could order a taxi to collect you at Heathrow.

Am I crazy to even think I could make the 3:00 performance? I wouldn't risk it. While you may get lucky and have a swift trip through immigration, you could just as easily spend hours getting through. My last visit (via Heathrow) I spent over 2 1/2 hours in the passport control queue alone. Then once you actually get out of the airport it's at least a 10-15 minute walk to the Tube or train. The Heathrow Express is quicker than the Tube but only goes to Paddington. You'd then need to get across London to the theatre. And also allow time to drop your luggage at your hotel, as you won't be able to take that to the theatre.
